Carnival Land Amusements Discover There’s Huge $$ In Solving Clients’ Problems! Carnival Land provides amusements to schools for their annual fete & were one of many such companies that had fallen into “the sea of sameness". When I interrogated James, the owner, I discovered that Carnival Land was in fact, very different. When RTé's Morning Ireland started broadcasting in 1984, Ireland had just recorded 235 drownings, the highest on record in any one year. The 1980's ended averaging 207 drownings every year and we ended the '00's averaging 150. Over the last decade we averaged 118, so as Rachel English remarked in yesterday's broadcast, drownings are indeed coming down. But 118 is still 118 too many. As clocks go forward over the Easter holidays, a conversation on the causes of previous tragedies and how people can take basic, simple steps to enjoying brighter longer days in, on and near water. ?? Celebrating July 4th with Happy and Healthy Horses! ?? The Fourth of July is a great time to celebrate independence and freedom, but it is also a time that can be stressful for people and animals alike. At Gateway HorseWorks, we prioritize the well-being of our herd members during the holiday. Here are the four practices we have in place for the Fourth of July to ensure our horses stay safe and calm during the fireworks and festivities. Proactive Horse Care: Our horses receive a healthy meal with electrolytes to keep them hydrated before the start of the fireworks. Maintaining Routine: To reduce added stress from a change in routine, the horses’ daily schedule, from the time they eat dinner to the time they go outside is kept the same, as every other day. Secure Environment: We ensure the fencing in the pastures is secure to prevent the horses from escaping if startled by loud noises. Our horse’s also have access to a large run-in with fans which help to dull the noise of fireworks. Celebrating Together: Some of our staff celebrate the holiday right here at the farm, enjoying a quiet evening watching over the horses in case they get overwhelmed and need to come into the barn. It’s a wonderful opportunity to observe our horses and ensure they feel secure amidst the festivities while also spending time together as a team. A new situation to share with businesses, chambers of commerce, and law enforcement: Event: A regional AKC dog show and sporting events. Attendee: A disabled groomer with a service dog who travels the country to state events, and occasionally enters his service dog in various events (dock diving, agility, etc.). Problem: The city’s chamber of commerce put out a policy to hotels that service dogs don’t compete in events, and are then considered the same as pets. Fact check: False, this was bad information that could have ended in a law suit with the Department of Justice in violation of ADA, and depending on state law, another suit Outcome: Thankfully the groomer/service dog handler chose to remain calm and provide education to hotel staff and the chamber. If the disabled person is able, or if a third party works with the service dog to compete at these types of events - it’s ok. And it’s still a service dog (SD), specially trained to perform specific task(s), and when able to use an event to hone those skills and have some fun being a dog it just improves the performance and capabilities of the dog.
