Lake Placid has been officially named the Plan B host site for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games sliding sports if the century-old Italian sliding track in Cortina d’Ampezzo is not completed by March 2025, according to state Olympic Regional Development Authority Communications Director Darcy Rowe Norfolk. ORDA has entered a?“targeted dialogue”?with the 2026 Milan-Cortina Organizing Committee, and will further develop the Plan B back-up plan for the sliding events. Lake Placid will now engage with stakeholders and partners to formalize the bid proposal into a detailed plan. #TeamUSA #OlympicGames #Olympics #WinterSports https://lnkd.in/gJ58id6t
What comes around goes around. Cortina's track hosted the IBSF (then FIBT) World Championships in 1960 when Squaw Valley would not build a bobsleigh track. They were supposed to build a separate luge track at those same games, but organizers refused out of costs. This was why luge did not debut at the Winter Olympics until 1964 in Innsbruck.

1 个月The Cesana track was slow to finish, but they pulled it off (though the homologation was done in a muddy environment the prior year). This will be interesting!
