?? Friday Inspiration: Brooke's Story ?? Meet Brooke R., a 57-year-old woman from Texas who, due to being uninsured, had gone three years without a breast screening. With a family history of breast cancer, she knew the importance of early detection—but the cost was a barrier. Then, one day while shopping at Walmart, she learned about the UBCF Breast Screening Program. After applying for a simple grant, Brooke was approved and was able to get the screening she desperately needed. "I hadn’t had a screening in three years. I’m so grateful for this program!" — Brooke R. Thanks to UBCF, women like Brooke are breaking down barriers to essential healthcare. Regular screenings save lives—and with the help of our Breast Screening Grant Program, women in need are getting the care they deserve. ?? You Can Help: Support programs like this by entering our Leather Jacket Raffle. Every entry supports critical breast cancer care and screenings for uninsured women like Brooke. ?? This October, as Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins, it’s time to confront the alarming disparities affecting Black women. Black women under 50 are 2.5 times more likely to die from breast cancer than their white counterparts, with 40% diagnosed at later stages. These are more than just numbers—these are lives impacted by systemic inequality in healthcare. At From Me to You, we stand with all women in the fight for equal care and access. Every woman, regardless of race, should have the same chance at survival. This month, we invite you to join us in advocating for better healthcare for Black women and ensuring that no one faces this battle alone. Your voice is powerful. Let’s raise it together. As October comes to a close, let's take a moment to reflect on the alarming disparities Black women face when it comes to breast cancer. Black women under 50 are 2.5 times more likely to die from breast cancer compared to white women in the same age group. In the UK, this figure is even more shocking: Black women are 42% more likely to die from breast cancer than white women. These disparities are rooted in systemic issues, including late-stage diagnosis, lack of access to quality care, and health disparities. Around 40% of Black women are diagnosed at stages III and IV, compared to 29% of white women, significantly impacting their outcomes. We can't stand by and let these numbers continue to rise. Intervention is crucial. My organisation From Me To You are here to advocate for Black women affected by breast cancer.? If you or someone you know has been diagnosed, please reach out to us for support and guidance. #BreastCancerAwareness #BlackWomenHealth #FromMeToYou

My favorite thing about working at the American Cancer Society has been being a part of an organization that responds to disparities with innovation as we chart a path towards health equity! ACS is never afraid to be the first and the only. Today I’m excited to share the post below highlighting our VOICES of Black Women cohort study, for which ACS is the FIRST to conduct a cohort study focussed on the recruitment of 100,000 Black women, and the ONLY to have a study of this size focussed on the lived experience of Black women and the linkage to cancer outcomes. ??Everyone has a role in this: - If you are a Black woman between the ages of 25-55, please consider learning more about and enrolling in the VOICES of Black Women cohort study - If you are an employer, consider sharing this opportunity with your employee resource groups as every ERG can participate through amplification or eligible participation. (Message me for details on a lunch and learn for your networks) - If you aren’t eligible for the study, you can still help us in amplifying this message in your networks and community. Cancer impacts everyone, but it doesn’t impact everyone equally. Help the American Cancer Society find out why as we chart a path to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. #healthequity #DEI #Inclusion #BlackWomen #Diversity

Continually proud to work for this organization. This initiative will have a lasting impact. "African Americans have a higher cancer burden?and face greater obstacles to cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and survival. In fact, Black people have the highest death rate and shortest survival of any racial/ethnic group for most cancers in the U.S." - https://lnkd.in/e7BUazj2 "The VOICES of Black Women is a study led by the American Cancer Society. The focus of this study is to better understand cancer and other health conditions among Black women. Results from this study will help inform how to improve the health of Black women for generations to come." - https://lnkd.in/ePry_MT2
