A quick reminder that this week's conversation with Ruth Wylie on Modem Futura is a must-listen for anyone working in or having an interest in K-12 education and futures-thinking. A compelling case from Ruth as to why developing the skills and insights to think critically about the relationship between who we are, what we do, and the future, is absolutely essential if humanity's to thrive in this age of transformative technological advances. BFX took away some valuable learnings from the Thriving in Vertical Schools Research Forum: - breakout spaces are essential for student wellbeing and thriving. Students often referred to these spaces as ‘reset’ or ‘retreat’ spaces - students identified the distractions of noisy learning environments on teaching and learning. Listening and engaging with the students has been incredibly enlightening, and we’re using this valuable research data to create environments where students can truly flourish. https://lnkd.in/gMkieBgc
Last week, C4IE hosted the Thriving in Vertical Schools Research Forum, and we're excited to share the video recording of the event. A big thank you to all our participants, both in-person and online, for making the forum such a success. We also extend our gratitude to the speakers, partner schools, and event organisers for their contributions. We're thrilled to showcase how vertical schools are reshaping education in Australia. This is a must-read. If you are working to ensure all learners have an equitable experience, engage2learn is the partner for you. Educators are truly talent and treating them as such, speaks volumes. I love this quote from Shannon Buerk in the interview: "The basic problem we are trying to solve is to ensure there is a highly skilled teacher in every classroom. Our technology provides a differentiated way for teachers and principals to upskill and collect data that informs the next steps. In the midst of a teacher shortage with a record attrition rate and low teacher preparation enrollment, the solution to this problem is not to try to replace teachers or coach anyone out of the profession. The solution is to upskill teachers in a way that honors them as talented professionals."

Happy to share that our collaboration paper with Jesper Ingvardson and Sebastián Raveau was just published in Transportation Research Part A ????????????. Of the different perks of academia, working with friends is among the ones I enjoy the most ????. ?? In this paper we extend the work on modelling inertia and shock effects by studying the opening of a new metro line in Santiago de Chile. To do so, we analyse smart card transactions, we clusterize passengers in terms of use and frequency of travel, and model different behavioural strategies. ?? After the introduction of the new metro line, a significant shock effect was observed, whereby users had an increased tendency to switch to modes that improved their level of service, and this effect increased slightly in the longer term. More details in the full paper, which is free to access for 50 days! https://lnkd.in/ei-SGtBY

The end of 2024 invites reflection, recharging, and renewal. Let's acknowledge the challenges we've faced this year. The world has felt heavy, and navigating these times hasn't been easy. But resilience is a powerful force. And at NTC, we believe that connection is the key to unlocking it. Let's commit to nurturing the power of connection in 2025: ?? For students: Building a sense of community that inspires curiosity and confidence. ?? For educators: Fostering collaboration and high-quality support that fuels their passion. I'm pleased to share with you an article that I consider of great relevance: "Handover Analysis of Mobile Cellular Network in a Populated City". Published in International Conference on Information Technology & Systems. This study was developed as part of the curricular integration work (ICTs). We believe that the results of this analysis provide valuable information on the efficiency of mobile networks in densely populated urban environments. We hope you find this resource as informative and enlightening as we do. https://lnkd.in/ePHG-4k2
