With DevCon concluding two weeks ago, it's time for the WID3+ Consortium to wrap the 2024 conference circuit. We spent about half a year in South East Asia, exploring Web3 markets in Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Crypto policy in Southeast Asia is as diverse as the regions culture. It was fun diving in at workshops facilitated by Pagoda and hear the vision of the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to turn Malaysia into a regional blockchain hub. Ethereum is facing stark competition from Sui and Solana in Southeast Asia. Collaborating with local Superteam chapters, we’ve worked on digital identity solutions for Solana and prototyped a Web3 contract management platform for Sui. Practicality often outweighs decentralization for stakeholders in the region, posing both opportunities and challenges for the success of Ethereum. As a researcher and industry participant, there is a lot to unpack over the coming months. We've already started making sense of these trends with a select group of stakeholders.

My First Hackathon Journey: Lessons in Procrastination, Focus, and Web3 Development ?? Problem: Web3 adoption is hindered by complex wallet setups and unfamiliar login processes. The goal was to make Web3 more accessible and user-friendly. Solution: I created OneWallet, a simple yet effective platform that integrates social logins with WalletConnect, allowing users to connect to decentralized apps with ease. OneWallet is designed to lower the barrier to entry and make Web3 accessible for everyone. Challenges: I procrastinated and only started the project with 24 hours left on the clock. It was an intense sprint to explore WalletConnect’s documentation, decide on a solution, and implement it effectively. Encountered technical issues with the <w3m-connect-button> that resulted in connection errors. After experimenting, I found that the <w3m-account-button> offered a more reliable solution. Learnings: The power of focused work—what I accomplished in 24 hours could have been much more if I had started earlier. Understanding and implementing documentation quickly and efficiently is key in hackathons. Realizing that while integration is important, there’s much more to explore and innovate beyond just connecting APIs. Reflection: This hackathon taught me a valuable lesson about the dangers of procrastination. I’m proud of what I accomplished, but I know I can do more. Next time, I’ll start earlier, push myself further, and aim to build something truly innovative from scratch. Moving Forward: I’m committed to overcoming procrastination and using what I’ve learned to dive deeper into Web3 development. The next hackathon will see me contributing something groundbreaking. We had an incredible journey at LNMHacks6 in The LNM Institute of Information Technology , and I can't believe we actually won! ?? After more than 72 hours of non-stop coding (thanks to an unhealthy amount of coffee), our team successfully built an NFT Staking Platform using Aeternity Foundation ???????????????????? and Next ?? Things we did right in this hackathon: ? Dared to think outside the box and nailed it! ? Our idea was so fresh, it felt like we practically invented new tech. ? Implemented feedback with lightning speed. Well, aren't we just living the dream? Working day and night, feeling like zombies. But hey, the challenges were nothing compared to the sense of fulfillment we now feel. ? Winning LNMHacks6 was surreal, especially considering it was my first hackathon experience.
