Why I Quit Corporate America!

Why I Quit Corporate America!

“Deborah, you have a Master’s degree in Business Economics; why not get a “real” job? Or if you love to be an entrepreneur, why not do a “real” business? Why fool around with these pyramid schemes?” People ask.

Hahaha cracks me up each time. I can’t help but have a good laugh because I know these folks mean well… but they’ve been pre-programmed to conform to the norms.

They really don’t know what they’re talking about. They haven’t done their due diligence. They haven’t taken the time to truly understand the concept of Creating Wealth by Building Networks.

Another reason I never get upset is because I’ve been there and done all of that… I got the “real” job and made really good money… but HATED my life to my very core. Corporate jobs are like having golden handcuffs… GOLDEN… but handcuffs all the same.

I gave up my 6-figure corporate job for these “pyramid schemes” as some people like to call them. I just couldn’t stand the cubicle lifestyle dancing to other people’s tunes... having to put up with the corporate politics and racial biases while building other people's empires... at the same time allowing my own dreams to rot and explode inside of me.

Let me tell you a bit about myself…

I moved to the U.S. from Cameroon, Africa several years ago… and all I wanted was to get an education and get a good job. After years of struggle and major sacrifices, I completed the education and got the so called professional job – wooohooo!

After working for about 4 years… one day it suddenly dawned on me… THIS IS IT! Master’s Degree and this is it? WHERE’S THE MONEYYYYY???

If I don’t do something different NOW, is this really going to be my life? My income wasn’t enough to pay my own bills, let alone help my family back home? What’s going on here?

I thought once I got the degrees and got the big job the money would start rolling in? Where is it? What am I missing?

I have never been good at settling for mediocrity or keeping up appearances, so I shoved the Master’s degree in a drawer and quit.

I retrained in IT (Information Technology) as an Oracle Database Administrator and later got a higher paying 6 figure income job.

WOW, that was terrific... or so I thought. That was a lot of money all of a sudden. I should’ve been satisfied, right?

WRONG!!!

Guess what? I was NOT happy. I was tired all the time and didn’t have enough energy to spend the money I was working so hard for. I always had acne on my face. I couldn’t even find the time to pamper myself with spas and facials, vacations, nights out dancing (I looove dancing) and fine dining… I was working all the time and often too tired to even go shopping… WHAT? LOL

Bottom line is... in my opinion my life sucked.

I found myself constantly asking what good is making big money if I am working around the clock? What a dilemma… but I should’ve at least been happy I got a high paying job, right? You know me… I don’t settle.

Then it occurred to me I didn’t just want financial freedom... I was in need of time freedom. So I quit that job and went in search of a balance – a balance between time and money.

I needed enough money to provide for myself and my family, but I also needed enough free time and energy to enjoy life with my loved ones... so life would not be all about work, work and more work.

I wanted to be able to take time off and go on vacations with loved ones for longer than 2 weeks and for more than once a year if we chose to. Is that too much to ask?

Life shouldn’t be just about working to pay the bills, should it? How long are we on this stage called “life” anyway? Do we really know? Shouldn’t life also be about having fun with the people we love?

So…

I retrained… again… this time in Real Estate… as the industry was booming at the time. I got the license and became a Real Estate Agent, but ended up mostly investing in Real Estate.

Between 2002 when I started and 2008 when the real estate bubble began to burst I had amassed 10 properties… town homes and single family homes… including my primary residence. I had it built from scratch with an apple orchard in the backyard. Saweeeeet.

I thought I had arrived. That was supposed to be my home for life. My retirement home.

At the tipping point of the real estate boom, my 10 properties had a fair market value of over $4 million with over $1 million in equity… and we were living in a mega home on the hill.

Life was good.

Then…

The real estate market suddenly crashed and everything went under water. My properties were instantly devalued… the appraised market values way less than the principal balances on mortgage statements. My equity eroded and all of a sudden I owed the banks a LOT of money. I lost my million dollar equity and my mortgages were bigger than the properties were worth. Can I say that again? I was in shock.

I attempted to salvage my homes but nothing was working, so after a few years I was forced to file for bankruptcy... and guess what happened to all my properties – You got it. Poof, all gone!!! I gave them all up in order to regain my sanity.

Hindsight is always 20/20… how I wish I had cashed out, but the crash was so sudden and investors didn’t see it coming... at least I didn’t see it coming.

My strategy was always to invest long term, but by the time I realized what was going on, it was too late to refinance or sell.

That’s the Real Estate industry for you… as volatile as can be expected. What a roller coaster ride that was, hahaha, but the lessons I learned in the process… PRICELESS!

Guess What?

I was born with that bulldog-like tenacity which forbids me from giving up until I win. I was born like that... can’t help it. LOL

The quest for time and financial freedom is and should be ongoing. You just don’t quit because things didn’t go as planned.

Fortunately for me, in 2006 before things began to fall apart in the real estate world, my sister had invited me to a business opportunity meeting.

I wasn’t looking to start a new business… in fact, I was doing just fine at the time making more money than I cared to admit.

I didn’t have a clue what the business meeting was about, but out of respect for big sis and because I always keep an open mind, I went along.

My mindset would be forever transformed.

Until then, I had never heard of the Network Marketing industry. I had never heard of creating wealth by building networks - leveraging other people’s efforts. I had no clue such a concept existed… not the faintest idea.

I later learned the industry was also known as “Relationship Marketing”, “Referral Marketing”, “Word of Mouth Marketing” and “Multi Level Marketing (MLM)”.

Network Marketing is building a network of distributors to market products and services using word of mouth advertising.

We work together in teams, leveraging each other’s time and efforts making it possible to earn more income than we would just working alone.

“The Best kept secret in the Business world… Network Marketing!” ~ Fortune Magazine

“From 2006 to 2016, there will be 10 Million new Millionaires in the U.S. alone, more than double the last decade…many will be from the Direct Selling Industry!” ~ Paul Zane Pilzer, a world-renowned economist, and the author of best-selling books and dozens of scholarly publications

WOW – I was stunned. What an eye opener the business overview was.

So I asked, “You mean I could build a team with like-minded people seeking financial independence... and I’ll earn a percentage of each team member’s monthly sales volume? Including people I don’t know who fall unlimited levels in my organization?”

The answer was a loud and resounding YES.

I WAS SOLD. I was told if I wanted to be wealthy, I must not only become my own boss, but most importantly, I must employ the Concept of LEVERAGE...

…and the only vehicle to achieve both is Network Marketing.

I completely understood what they were saying because at that time I was already self-employed but I wasn’t leveraging. That’s why it was easy for everything to come crashing down on me. You live and learn, right?

I GOT HOOKED immediately… I registered on the spot, started a new business and I’ve been addicted to Network Marketing ever since.

Mighty thanks to my big sister for introducing me to the Network Marketing industry... and I’m grateful to 5linx for giving me the initial tools and solid training needed to understand how powerful this industry truly is.

In 9 months I achieved the rank of National Director in 5linx and later moved on to another company to explore other opportunities.

In 2008, 2 years after I joined the Network Marketing industry, the real estate market crashed and I turned to Network Marketing full time. I’ve been involved ever since.

Fortunately I had something to fall back on, right? What if I didn’t? What would I have done? I shudder just thinking that I could've been forced to go back looking for a job like many people who were affected by the crash had to do.

Hey listen…

If you work a job, that’s awesome. You should count yourself blessed because some people can’t even find work.

However, I know most people’s lives are out of balance like mine was. You may be the lucky few with perfect jobs, but not many can boast about their jobs. I know because I lived that life.

I had jobs that didn’t pay much but left a lot of time on my hands. I also had jobs that paid lots of money but hardly any time left to spend with family and enjoy life. I speak out of experience.

I am sure this resonates with many people out there in the corporate world. I HAD TO find a career that allowed me that balance between time and money… but perhaps that’s just crazy old me asking for too much out of life.

Why is it easy for some people to create wealth while others remain destitute all their lives?

WHY?

Robert Kiyosaki says “The richest people in the world look for and build NETWORKS. Everyone else looks for work.”

By building networks the wealthy are employing the concept of LEVERAGE.

* They leverage Other People’s TIME (OPT) - They’re getting paid 24 hrs everyday and around the world. When some people are sleeping in one part of the world, others are awake building their business in other parts of the world and network builders are getting paid.

* They leverage Other People’s EFFORT (OPE) - They’re getting paid a percentage of many people’s efforts not just their own.

* They leverage Other People’s MONEY (OPM) - They don’t work for money. Money works for them.

LEVERAGED INCOME is income not dependent on your day to day effort. It is dependent on team effort. You earn income off of the efforts of other people in your team. It is PASSIVE Income. It is RESIDUAL income.

It is OPT, OPE and OPM income. You leverage other people’s time, effort and money to create passive income for yourself. It is how the wealthy get wealthy.

It is the most powerful kind of income that exists but most people disregard it because they really don’t understand it. Take time to understand how to build leveraged income and you won’t want to do anything else ever again.

The rich get richer because they build networks and get paid on the efforts of other people 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They don’t work around the clock exchanging hours for money… They find ways to have money work for them.

Look at the world today. Life as we know it is completely different. Global economies are changing drastically, creating uncertainties and financial panic in every country.

If you went in to work today and your boss served you a 2 week notice or fired you on the spot, God forbid…

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

How would you pay for the necessities and joys of life?

Would you be able to pay your bills until you found another job?

Would you be able to find another job in this economic climate?

Think about this…

Financial planners say we must have enough money saved to cover our bills for at least 6 months should we lose our jobs. I think 12 months sound safer during these crazy times when nothing is certain.

Do you have that much in savings? Most people don’t. If no, have you ever thought about having a part-time home business just in case?

No?

Why not?

Because it is one of those pyramid schemes?

You could be as surprised as I was. There’s a good reason why I’ve been addicted to this industry since 2006. If you took time to really understand how it works, you just might get hooked as well, hahaha.

I should've prefaced with the fact that Network Marketing is definitely not for everyone... and I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. Network Marketing when done correctly is simple... but because humans are difficult, negative and generally complicated, it is NOT easy.

If it was, everyone would be doing it, right? Not everyone will succeed because not everyone will put in the required effort and do whatever it takes. It takes hard work and dedication, consistency, persistence and commitment to succeed at anything in life.

It certainly hasn’t been easy for me… it’s been up and it’s been down… but on average, it has worked for me and solved my problems over the years. Not just me but millions of other people around the world. If you looked into it, you could find a solution for your circumstances as well.

Do you understand the importance of leverage? It beats anything else I know hands down... but I must repeat.. the concept may be simple, but just like anything good in life, it ain’t easy to build.

You have to be ready for some challenges like with anything else in life. It is definitely NOT a get rich quick scheme like most people think. Nothing good comes easy in life... Nothing.

If you can’t find a job and really need to make a change in your life… you could be surprised to find it working for you as well. It’s all in the mindset.

The Network Marketing industry allows you to create wealth by building a network with positive and like-minded individuals who need to take over control of their lives.

People who want to look in the mirror and see the decision maker. No one can fire us because we get to decide what happens in our own lives.

Our principle is simple – We don’t want to have to work for 40+ years and retire on 1/3 the income that was never enough in the first place.

We want to work very very hard for 5, 10, 15 or even 20 years building an organization we can retire from but continue earning great residual incomes. That… is how we define financial freedom.

I’ll summarize the philosophies by which we operate with 2 quotes:

“I’d rather have one percent of the efforts of 100 people than 100 percent of my own efforts.” ~ Jean Paul Getty

“If you really want to learn how to be rich, you must begin to know and understand the power found in networks. The Richest People in the world Build Networks.” ~ Robert Kiyosaki – Best Selling Author of Rich Dad Poor Dad

Listen…

YOU can do it if you really want. All it takes is the decision, commitment and perseverance… Like I said above, it may be simple and doable but just like everything else in life, it’s not going to be easy.

Only the committed will survive.

If you persist through the challenges and obstacles bound to show up each time anyone embarks on a journey leading to greatness… if you commit to succeed and are consistent no matter what… YOU will be sure to succeed.

Let me show you how it’s done… I have consistently been at it since 2006.

We are open for business in 195 countries so you can build your business from anywhere in the world with anyone in any of these countries.

We have a simple system and an online community training system you can plug into for masterminding. You’ll associate with positive thinking people from all ages and all walks of life… The process is simple, it’s social, it’s fun, and it’s easy to duplicate.

You may someday be able to free yourself from your 9-5 job like I did… if that’s what you want… and build real wealth from the comfort of your home or from the beaches of the world… wherever you prefer, the choice is yours.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned in this life is that happiness is not just about the size of one’s bank account… neither is it about having all the time you want.

It’s about having enough time along with enough money to spend having fun in life with the people you love.

Do you agree?

Here’s the opening paragraph of the first chapter of the book “The Science of Getting Rich” by Wallace D. Wattles – first published in 1910:

“The Right To Be Rich”

“WHATEVER may be said in praise of poverty, the fact remains that it is not possible to live a really complete or successful life unless one is rich. No man can rise to his greatest possible height in talent or soul development unless he has plenty of money; for to unfold the soul and to develop talent he must have many things to use, and he cannot have these things unless he has money to buy them with.”

What do you think about that?

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~ Marianne Williamson
