A CISO’s job description must be precise and straightforward. This was one of my favorite takeaways from the latest Vigilance podcast with Shamla Naidoo: She says: Think of it this way: → It should be like a grocery list: specific and itemized. Why is this important? → Clarity in role expectations leads to effective execution. → It minimizes the risks of overstepping or underperforming. For CISOs, remember: — Do your job well, but stick to the list. No more, no less. — If you venture beyond, ensure there's a record. A critical note: → Making decisions outside your job description? Don't go at it alone. This approach is crucial for: — Maintaining focus in a complex cybersecurity landscape. — Ensuring accountability and transparency in your role If you’re interested in watching the full interview with Shamla, visit the link here: https://lnkd.in/g7P2HYFW

How can you work with your employees so they WANT to be more secure? First: Understand WHY they’re violating your security protocol. Second: Find an alternative that will keep them safe but is convenient enough that they won’t find a way to avoid those best practices. If it hinders their ability to work efficiently, they’re going to find a workaround. When Duncan Sparrell started at Bell Labs (which later became ATT), he had no interest in getting a security clearance. But at one point, his manager convinced him to go for it. Without that clearance, Duncan never would have been able to repair a Linux-based PBX during a very critical situation that got some attention. Before the internet existed as we know it today, information warfare was taking place across the world. Inside this tumult is where Duncan Sparrell's cybersecurity expertise began. In this episode, you'll hear the story of Duncan's progression into management and the move back to individual contributor, how he evaluated new opportunities, his experience in information warfare, and some thoughts on technology hype cycles. What's your cybersecurity origin story? ?? Episode 28 is out now featuring the wonderful Vincent Scott from Defense Cybersecurity Group ?? We had Vincent join us to discuss the CMMC phase rollout and what the implementation could look like. We've read the 32 CFR final rule (multiple times), but what does this truly look like in the coming months? Questions we discuss: ?? How many Lead CCAs are there? ?? When will you see assessment requirements in contracts? ?? Will there be any phase extensions? We loved having Vincent on the show to talk with us and theorize what the implementation could look like. We, again, are not claiming CMMC Bible with this. It's just a discussion that we thought we should have on the podcast because MANY people, businessowners, contractors have been asking us. We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments as well! ?
