Tremendous conversation yesterday. My thanks to Matt Alex for putting this together to Nicole Baldassarre for being a thought-provoking moderator, Joe Sabado, MBA for his deep insights and strategy, and to the attendees for raising insightful questions and comments. Lots of take aways and food for further thought including aspects related to - What drives change in HigherEd & could AI be the catalyst? - Are concerns about AI because of an "institutional" focus or based on concerns for students and the efficacy of learning? The difference between AI driven and AI enabled - Areas of greatest potential for AI to make a true difference in "learning" - Are we (the HigherEd community) focused on areas of current or past relevance - Can AI be implemented for operations by "insertion" or is a systems level assessment needed for success? - Workforce skills, academic knowledge, and competencies These, and many others, are conversations we need to have - focusing on the future, not the past, and through a student/learner centered lens rather than one based on "whats good for the institution" Change is hard but its needed if HigherEd is to remain relevant and of value in a fast converging & continuously changing world. AI is not a panacea but it definitely illuminates our prior shortcomings and could be the catalyst for the hard discussions needed for a true transformation.
