It's Latin Heritage Month, and as a proud Afro-Latina, ???? it means the world to me to be honored as one of TikTok's 2024 Visionary Voices. I started cooking because my grandmother, who migrated to the United States from Puerto Rico at 13 years old as the sole provider for her 17 brothers and sisters, taught me that through food, I could connect, inspire, and love. Although I mirror her in many ways, unlike me, she never had the opportunity to live out her biggest dreams. But no matter what, she was proud of who she was and kept her heritage a focal point of her identity. This honor is dedicated to Edyth, my beautiful grandmother - may she rest in peace. It's also dedicated to all of the hardworking first and second-generation Latinas who are the first in their family to have the opportunity to achieve things that our ancestors could only dream of. We are making history in real time. Thank you TikTok for seeing us and recognizing us.
