UNC Research is online safety. Read more about this research here: https://go.unc.edu/g3C6X Computer scientist Saba Eskandarian designs online messaging applications that allow users to report abusive content without compromising their privacy. Messaging applications that provide strong privacy regulations can have the unintended side effect of making it harder for users to report abuse. When the platform cannot see messages or who is sending them, it cannot know if a report of abusive content is real. As new platforms are developed, Saba hopes to educate the next generation on the importance and realities of online safety. Individuals are interacting with these platforms at younger and younger ages, which makes Saba's research and teaching that much more important. Saba's research is funded by grants from the National Science Foundation.
