With an average of 15.6 million people watching the Euros, Adidas could not have chosen a better time to launch the 2024/25 Manchester United home kit on Roblox. Since 1st July, fans have been able to dress their avatars in everything from the latest shirts, shorts, and socks to the iconic anthem jacket and pre-match shirt. They can even add the beloved mascot, Fred the Red, to their avatars for an extra touch of team spirit. Not only was this strategic timing, adidas is leveraging the power of fandom and immersive experiences to reach younger audiences. Gen Z and Alpha are less interested in traditional marketing tactics, and it’s smart to reach them on a platform where they spend an average of 2.6 hours a day. Sports brands and teams often underestimate the potential between the intersection of sports and gaming culture but this breaks that mold. adidas set a new record for selling a Roblox limited UGC item... This chain sold for 2M Robux, which equals $25,000 USD. According to Matthew Warneford, this adidas item sold out in 60 seconds. It came with "two physical, unique, hand-customized pairs of shoes from adidas (Germany)." Who purchased the item? My guess it was a Roblox developer with lots of Robux in their account. Two years into its Web3 roadmap, adidas is on the cusp of launching its first avatar product. It’s a signal that the company is still fully engaged in implementing its #Web3 strategy. The avatars - that are part of the Adidas’ “ALTS” storyline, which ties the company’s tokenized products into a unique narrative - are scheduled to be released after the third “chapter” of the #storyline, which will kick off as early as next month, according to a post by the official ALTS X/Twitter account (here https://lnkd.in/dd_UzpWa) Based on adidas’s announcement, roughly 20.000 adidas NFT holders will each receive a unique #avatar and profile picture, which the ALTS website describes as “a virtual identity you can represent and flex to your friends across different social platforms. What one’s virtual identity looks like is determined by one’s interaction with the brand through a variety of different narrative chapters." I had the possibility to talk with a few adidas NFT holders and they are all excited to try out their avatars, regardless of where they will be available. Most are using words like, “…the avatar sneak peak is amazing. I’ve been in the space for a long time and I’ve never seen anything like this before, or, “..the design aligns with the Adidas brand and represents perfectly my style”. It’s definitely a great example of what I said several times: for most people there’s no difference between the digital/virtual reality and the physical one. There is only one “Reality”. In other words, in the #Future, the word “Reality” will no longer be used to distinguish the physical dimension from the digital/virtual one of the relationship between #Brands and people. It will be a Future in which brands will no longer be desired on the basis of the products they will offer to people to be consumed, but will be desired on the basis of the #culture they will produce to be experienced by people. #BrandStrategy #CreationEconomy https://lnkd.in/d3QjJwmB
