#CallForPapers ?? Special Issue ?? "Exercise Biochemistry and Cellular Physiology: Mechanisms and Insights" - ?? Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics (MCB) Q3 Using state-of-the-art analytical techniques, such as omics and systems biology, this will aim to further detail the molecular bases underpinning exercise and underline how this information can be used to inform training and health strategies. It, therefore, avails an opportunity for the revisiting and further refinement of some of the critical concepts in exercise science that may require revisiting for the advancement of the field itself and to help bridge the gap between traditional understandings and contemporary scientific findings. We hereby invite colleagues from around the world to submit original articles, experimental mechanistic studies, epidemiological studies, and systematic reviews with meta-analyses. Guest Editors ?? Prof. Jorge Luis Petro, PhD ?? Prof. Diego A. Bonilla, ISAK 3 +INFO: https://lnkd.in/eN4Ar7nw ?? Deadline for manuscript submissions: 30 June 2025 #exercise #Physiology #Biochemistry #stress #cellular #allostasis #adaptation #medicine

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) may begin when brain no longer creates mature brain cells - QUT Health study finds. QUT School of Biomedical Sciences Researchers Dr Rachel Okolicsanyi and AsProf. Larisa M Haupt Haupt and PhD candidate Martina Gyimesi have called for a rethink about the possible early cause of AD in their recently published article in Open Biology; Beyond amyloid and tau: rethinking Alzheimer’s disease through less explored avenues. The study challenges the accepted view of a build-up of amyloid proteins in the brain as the cause of the brain deterioration seen in patients with AD, and instead offers a broader, alternative view that centres on impaired adult hippocampal neurogenesis (AHN) as a potential early causal factor. IMRA Stories from the Field: 2019 Recipient Benjamin Steinberg, MD, PhD, FRCPC With a village of mentors and collaborators behind him and the support of The Scientist Track Investigator program at The Hospital for Sick Children, Benjamin Steinberg, MD, PhD, FRCPC was awarded the 2019 IARS Mentored Research Award for his research, “The Role of Pyroptosis in Neuropathic Pain.” The award helped to build a robust and successful research career in basic science for Dr. Steinberg, specifically focused on the science that most intrigued him - cellular and molecular mechanisms of pain. His initial science sought to implicate some of the key molecules and pathways, specifically a molecule called gasdermin D, and delineate how those pathways feed into the inflammatory burden of pain. However, along the way, they discovered something surprising, a male-female difference or a sexual dimorphism for this immune modulator. Today, that initial discovery has grown wings, creating several big questions leading to intriguing scientific outcomes. Dr. Steinberg and his team continue to work diligently to corroborate their initial findings and then phenotype them. The path from biomedical research to bedside is a long journey, but they hope to get there! #IARSAwards #IMRAStories #AnesthesiaResearch #ResearchAward #PainResearch #BiomedicalScience #ScientificDiscovery Read his interview: https://ow.ly/EtFQ50UuAkj

?? Big News! ?? I’m beyond excited to announce that I am a co-author of an incredible new paper: "Injury distance limits the transcriptional response to spinal injury!" ??? This groundbreaking research uncovers a critical factor in spinal injury recovery: the distance of the injury determines how well neurons can respond and regenerate! Our study used cutting-edge single-nuclei sequencing to reveal that corticospinal neurons—crucial for movement and function—barely react to distant spinal injuries, but mount a strong response when damage occurs closer to the brain. This opens huge possibilities for improving therapies aimed at boosting nerve regeneration and recovery after spinal injuries! This research shines a light on one of the biggest challenges in neuroscience and has the potential to transform how we approach spinal injury treatments.
