On November 19, WRI India in collaboration with Navakeralam Karma Padhathi, organized stakeholder consultation workshop on ‘Unlocking Kerala's Clean Energy Potential - Technology and Local Government Focused Interventions’ to devise strategies and solutions for the state's energy transition. The workshop took place at Thiruvananthapuram.? The one-day workshop provided a platform to discuss insights, innovative solutions, and explore strategies for accelerating Kerala's progress toward a sustainable energy future. It highlighted the crucial role of Local Self-Governments (LSGs) in advancing the state's clean energy transition.?? Key Highlights ?? ?? Vaisakh Suresh Kumar from WRI India shared analysis on various renewable energy technology options that Kerala can consider for expanding its renewable capacity. ?? Ijas M A from WRI India presented findings from a study that focused on buildings owned by select 92 Panchayats - significant energy savings and rooftop solar potential exist within buildings owned by local self-governments (LSGIs). Utilizing this potential can lower energy costs and generate additional income. ?? WRI India unveiled a video story - "Solarizing Local Bodies", Showcasing clean energy initiatives undertaken by two local governments with the support from ANERT (Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology), also highlighting the collaborative support from WRI India and? Navakeralam Karma Padhathi in scaling these efforts. ?? Santosh K Gurunath from Umagine presented key findings from a study that focused on GH2 roadmap for Trivandrum district and fertilizer sector. ? The workshop was divided into two moderated panel discussions where speakers deliberated on the opportunities and challenges of local governments in contributing to the state’s energy transition scenario and the role of technology in the state’s energy transition.? ?
