?? At Duke’s Department of Medicine, the Faculty Development Academy (FDA) is transforming how junior faculty grow and thrive in their careers. This two-year program, led by Vice Chair for Faculty Development Dr. Carla Brady, offers junior faculty members a more personalized development experience designed to balance busy schedules with impactful learning opportunities. With a fresh, condensed curriculum, FDA includes hands-on workshops, mentorship, and interactive sessions on essential skills—ranging from creative thinking and conflict resolution to negotiation and team building. The program also emphasizes community-building and cross-departmental connections, offering junior faculty a supportive network and structured time to advance their academic and clinical goals. Dr. Brady, herself an alum of FDA’s 2011 cohort, shares how the Academy has evolved to address the changing needs of today’s medical professionals. “We’re expanding our content to help faculty engage in nimble, constructive ways, whether in research, patient care, or team collaboration,” she says. For junior faculty at Duke, FDA is more than just professional training; it’s an opportunity to connect deeply with mentors and peers and gain tools to navigate an ever-evolving field with confidence and creativity. ?? Applications for the next cohort open in Summer 2025. ?? ?? “I cultivated my passion for community service, discussed complex issues in healthcare and society, and met like-minded peers…What I learned as an AHEC Scholar will help me positively impact the medical community.” ?? It’s graduation season, our favorite time of year! This May, thousands of AHEC Scholars will complete their program and continue on their healthcare professions journey. ????????Some will continue to medical and dental residency programs. ?? Others will begin careers in public health, social work, or healthcare education. All will have one distinction in common: they have received specific training designed to help combat health inequities nationwide. What, exactly, is the AHEC Scholars program? We’re glad you asked! ?? The AHEC (Area Health Education Center) Scholars program provides students enrolled in either a health professions degree program or an allied health workforce degree program with specific education and training designed to help combat health inequities nationwide. AHEC Scholars form a cohort of health profession students that follows a defined set of clinical, didactic, and community-based training activities in rural and/or underserved areas. Scholars spend two years in the program and are trained in eight core areas: ?? Interprofessional education (also known as interdisciplinary training) ?? Behavioral health integration ?? Connecting communities and supporting health professionals ?? Virtual learning and telehealth ?? Social determinants of health ?? Cultural competency ?? Practice transformation ?? Current and emerging health issues The AHEC Scholars program provides students with an added dimension to their education and allows them experiences that set them apart from their peers. In the coming weeks, we’ll feature stories of AHEC Scholars from around the country, doing what they do best: learning, collaborating, and making a difference in their communities. Know a Scholar? Tag them below! Interested in learning more about the Scholars program? ??: https://lnkd.in/dDHF5kt ? ?

This is invaluable. It's tough when you have an idea of the career path you want to follow, but there isn't a lot of support for it. Luckily, healthcare is universal so it's great to see a program dedicated to helping students get started. I'm just getting started too - luckily I have the support of Futuro Health, but if you go to Indiana University Fort Wayne I definitely recommend taking part in this. #medicine #healthcare #healthcarecareers #alliedhealth #careerpath #lifescience #lifesciences #biology #medical

It’s early April and that time of year again - the Annual The Ohio State University (OSU) Health Administration Case Competition! This competition is fairly unique both because of its focus on first year healthcare management graduate students and because it is totally planned and led by the OSU MHA second year students. While the teams are blinded and only identify by letters until the end of the competition, it is not a secret which 24 universities are participating. And they are all full member Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) graduate programs! The first round of the competition starts bright and early at 8:00 am tomorrow (Friday) morning and is limited to the teams, faculty advisers, student observers from the team’s university, and the judges. The 24 teams will be narrowed to six and an announcement will be made at lunchtime of which teams advance. The finals in the afternoon are open for all to watch - and I can’t wait. My great friend and colleague, Quint Studer, often asks colleagues “what is your battery charge? At what level is your battery right now?” My battery is most easily and fully charged when I see students, faculty and staff excel, grow professionally, and find their own joy. I will have a 100% charged battery by the time the OSU Health Administration Case Competition is over tomorrow afternoon! #osu #aupha #ache #aha #mgma #nahse #nalhe #cahme #casecompetition #students #studentsuccess #case #caseanalysis #healthcareleadership #healthcaremanagement #healthpolicy #health University of Minnesota University of Florida University of Iowa Medical University of South Carolina Cornell University University of Southern California University of Washington Saint Louis University Virginia Commonwealth University University of Michigan Rutgers University Baylor University Tulane University University of Kentucky University of Pittsburgh University of Alabama at Birmingham University of Utah University of Louisville University of Central Florida Texas A&M University RUSH University Xavier University University of Utah The Ohio State University
