??In a recent interview with 7 News, Wes Lambert CPA, FGIA, CAE, MAICD, deputy Chair of the Australian Foodservice Advocacy Body, discussed the ongoing challenges facing the hospitality industry. With a lingering COVID-19 impact, businesses are struggling under the weight of rising costs of goods and rents. Despite an increase in restaurant award rates, this isn't providing relief to the industry. Lambert highlighted the escalating costs faced by restaurants, leading to closures and the grim prospect of more shutdowns in 2024 due to these mounting expenses. #AFAB #foodservice #hospitality #melbourne #australiannews #7NEWS

On Wednesday, September 18th, Patrick McDermott brought together key leaders and experts in the food service industry to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of school catering. ?? Key Takeaways: ? The education market is likely to contract sooner rather than later. ? School budgets will be increasingly constrained. ? Quality will be king, with a shift towards high-quality offerings. ? Change is inevitable. Now's the time to adapt, not bury our heads in the sand. ? Sustainability efforts will only gain traction if they're cost-effective. ? Plate waste is a hidden expense, driving unnecessary production and supply costs—most of it is avoidable. ? Clear communication between consultants, caterers, and schools is key to success. ? Caterers should become trusted advisors, driving ESG initiatives that benefit both schools and the sector. We want to extend a huge thank you to all of our guests for their valuable contributions and insights. Your expertise and collaboration are what drive progress in our industry. The $50 billion sector has said both federal and state governments are significantly impacting business growth through increasing red tape and compliance at a time when the cost of doing business in the food sector has sky rocketed in the past couple of years which, ultimately, impacts the cost of food to the consumer. Multiple pieces of recent research have highlighted the impact that government red tape and compliance is having on businesses profitability. Forty-five percent of small businesses have considered closing their doors during the last twelve months. ?? BREAKING NEWS! ?? We’re very proud to launch our new brand for the cluster: Tastebuds, the collective for food and drink innovators. As you may know, our funding expired at the end of September 2023. Since then, we have been working hard to build financial sustainability to be able to continue supporting this vibrant and amazing community of food and drink businesses. Our founding members have enabled us to achieve this. Since January, we have been working with the Norwich University of the Arts to create our new name, brand and visual identity. We hope you like it! Alongside this we are launching our new membership structure. Thanks to the funds we have raised from founders, we have managed to keep fees as low as possible, and at the price our members said they would like to see way back in March 2023, when we asked you about this at our conference. Not only do we have no eligibility criteria - as long as you work or support food and drink vendors - we can now support those across the region and further. So if location was a problem before, it certainly is not now. We are offering you 25% off your first year if you sign up before 30th April. Details in the link in bio.
