Meet Anne Adams, an 83-year-old retired acupuncturist from St. Augustine. When she noticed a change in her health, she visited her doctor, leading to tests that revealed ductal carcinoma in situ, a form of breast cancer. Thanks to the swift action of her health care team at UF Health, Anne learned that the cancer had spread more than initially thought, but they caught it just in time. With Dr. Christine Routhier’s support, she underwent a one-sided mastectomy just a week later. Reflecting on her journey, Anne said, “I was treated as a person rather than a patient. The care was wonderful, and my concerns were taken seriously.” Now recovering at home, Anne’s story reminds us to stay vigilant about our health and to consult a physician if you notice any changes that are out of the ordinary. It’s Stoma Awareness day and I want to shed light on a topic that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves. For many, living with a stoma is part of their daily life after surgeries for conditions like bowel cancer, Crohn’s disease, or diverticulitis. Yet, despite its prevalence, there’s still a significant lack of understanding around what it means to have a stoma. Having a stoma can be life-changing—sometimes daunting, but also life-saving. It’s essential that we break the stigma, educate ourselves, and support those living with a stoma in both personal and professional settings. Compassion, understanding, and practical accommodations can make a world of difference. Working in healthcare, it’s crucial that we continue to improve awareness, normalise conversations about stomas, and provide comprehensive care to empower those who live with one. Whether it’s ensuring appropriate aftercare, giving emotional support, or simply being open to discussions, every little bit helps. Let’s commit to a culture of openness, empathy, and support. Together, we can help those with a stoma live with confidence and dignity. #StomaAwareness #HealthcareLeadership #InclusiveCare #BreakingStigmas #MSE #NHS

Inflammation – Just Because You Can’t See It Doesn’t Mean It Won’t Get You. We all have it but nobody talks about it.. TIME magazine, all the way back in 2004, identified inflammation as the secret killer and connecting it to not only, cancer, heart attacks and Alzheimer’s but other diseases as well. However, invisible inflammation does not show up on any of our highly advanced medical diagnostic tools like x-rays, CT scans, PET scans, etc. Read more about invisible inflammation on our blog and take a look at my segment on Ticker TV talking about it. https://lnkd.in/gKThq5kd

WHEN LIFE FORCES YOU TO PAUSE: In May 2016, I experienced a life-altering health crisis – a burst appendix and sepsis – which left me bedridden for months. Just as I was beginning to recover, I received another blow: an aggressive breast cancer diagnosis. It was then I realized the importance of slowing down and listening to my body. Rushing into conventional treatments didn’t feel right for me. This realization became the foundation for The McCourt Method Breathing Space. I now guide others to find their own pause, explore their options, and build a strategy for health and healing. In times of crisis, how important is it to listen to your instincts?

YOU are your own best advocate when it comes to your health. As we close in on Mother’s Day, we want to remind all women (and men!) to be diligent about your health care screenings. Every woman can take advantage of early detection for both breast and cervical cancer. Regular mammograms and breast exams for breast cancer and PAP smears to detect cervical cancer are available to every woman. To better understand how often and when YOU should get these screening exams and others, please talk to your doctor, your primary care provider, gynecologist, or medical oncologist. Remember, early detection saves lives! Did you know…. There is no screening test for ovarian or uterine cancer. Regular visits to your gynecologist can open the door to discussion about potential signs and symptoms of these conditions. Talking with your gynecologist and their exams may be the key to revealing findings that could lead to further testing to detect these cancers or any other health concerns. Your primary care providers are your best friends when it comes to taking care of your women’s health needs. Be kind to yourself and take charge, be your own best advocate!! ?????? #makeadifferenceformoms #saricares #saricenter #noonewalksalone #communitycancercare

Today, on World Brain Tumor Day, we stand in solidarity with those affected by brain tumors and honor the courage and resilience of patients, families, and caregivers. Brain tumors can have a profound impact on individuals and their loved ones, and it's essential that we raise awareness and support research to improve diagnosis, treatment, and care. Let us come together to create a world where everyone has access to the best possible care and support, and where no one faces this journey alone. As we observe World Brain Tumor Day, we also acknowledge the progress made in brain tumor research and treatment. However, there is still much work to be done. Let us continue to support innovative research, advocate for policies that benefit the brain tumor community, and provide compassion and understanding to those affected. Together, we can make a difference and create a future where brain tumors are manageable and eventually curable. Let us shine a light on this important cause and show our support for those impacted by brain tumors. Loretta Health Initiative (LHI) aims at promoting healthy living. To learn more about us, visit https://lnkd.in/e5y_gRk8. You can also email us [email protected].
