Great approach Catherine Jenkins - where are you, where do you want to be, how are you going to get there / what do you need to do to get there
Rural People Co have been fortunate to be involved with the delivery of the workshops 'Tactics for dry times' - delivered in South West Victoria to support dairy farmers managing changing milk prices and dry seasonal conditions. Run by WestVic Dairy and supported by Agriculture Victoria, these workshops provide dairy farmers and service providers with information around farm business management strategies, feedbase, animal health and extra support services provided by the Rural Financial Counselling Service Victoria West. Today I was able to present at the Colac workshop - and the image below is the last slide from the presentation - trying to keep things simple and encouraging farmers to use a 'productive mindset' and take action to 1/ know their position, 2/ make a plan and 3/ talk to others and 4/ be prepared (spring is just around the corner!)

?? Farm to Leadership Wisdom: When Truth Matters Most A difficult but necessary story from Davis Dewberry Farm about integrity and trust. When our two angus calves came home and quickly declined, we faced a harsh reality about the importance of transparency in business. Upon reaching out to the breeder, we discovered discrepancies in the information provided about the calves' birth and history. What began as excitement turned into a powerful lesson about due diligence and vendor integrity. What We Learned: ? Verify claims before commitments ? Documentation matters more than verbal assurances ? Transparency builds lasting relationships ? Question changing narratives ? Trust your instincts when stories don't align The Leadership Truth: Just as we learned to thoroughly vet our livestock sources, organizations must carefully evaluate partnerships. Your reputation isn't just built on what you do - it's built on who you choose to work with. Key Takeaways: ? Integrity isn't negotiable ? Due diligence saves more than money ? Clear communication prevents costly mistakes ? Sometimes saying "no" saves your reputation Moving Forward: This experience reshaped our approach to partnerships and quality assurance. We now know that protecting our farm's reputation means being as thorough in our vendor selection as we are in our animal care. What experiences have taught you about the true value of transparency in business? #LeadershipLessons #BusinessIntegrity #QualityAssurance #FarmWisdom #TransparencyMatters

Economist/ Agric~Enthusiast Talks Agricbuisness, Finance & Entrepreneurship [email protected]
For those in animal production, ever wondered the required quantity of feed you need to give your pig, bird, fish to attain either 1kg, 2k or whatever Kg as the case may be ? Conversion Index (CI) : This explains in detail the conversion rate of feed given to an animal to meat. To certify this the farmer must first take technical data on the ration as needed by the animal and must also monitor and detail the weight gain from birth, weaner stage day old chicks( DOC)as the case may be to the expected market weight. By formula it's gotten by dividing the ration by the average body gain. Hope it helps ?? ?? #agribusiness #ogburubisfarms

DYK- Discover the Secrets of Milk Withdrawal in Goats Dear All, We are thrilled to share with you all the next flyer of “Did You Know” (DYK), focused on *milk storage in dairy animals. Milk, as you all are well aware, is produced in alveoli and moves further to cisternal compartment and is then secreted. Milking stimulation is a requirement in buffalo, camel, cow as well as sheep for effective milk letdown as their cisternal milk content is less than alveolar. Goat is one dairy animal, where milk can be withdrawn anytime during the day and that too without any pre-stimulation. This is because the goat’s cisternal to alveolar milk ratio is 80:20. While the same in other animals is Buffalo- 5:95 Camel- 5:95 Cattle- 30:70 Sheep- 50:50
