Christy Ay's journey from a small village in China to nursing in Colorado reflects her deep commitment to helping others. After starting in ministry and music, she pursued nursing to make a more meaningful impact, overcoming language barriers and rigorous studies along the way. Christy integrates her love of music into her nursing duties at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center, often singing gospel hymns or traditional Chinese songs to offer moments of peace and comfort. "I once had a patient with dementia and amnesia who was not able to speak clearly, but she could sing. We would sing 'You Are My Sunshine' together, and that would calm her down," Christy recalled. Her passion for music goes beyond simple melodies; she understands its profound impact on healing. The bond she shares with her patients through music creates a space where words aren't needed, yet the connection is deeply felt. Christy's compassionate approach extends beyond medical tasks, using music to foster healing and create profound human connections. Thank you, Christy, for your work to improve lives??

Ten years ago, Amy Burant was devastated when diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension, a severe lung disease with no cure. Her symptoms had been misattributed to asthma, weight and stress until a series of tests in 2013 revealed pulmonary arterial hypertension as the actual cause. This condition places extreme pressure on the arteries that supply blood to the lungs and heart, potentially leading to heart failure. In the decade since, Amy has worked hard to get stronger, treating every day as her next biggest adventure. With a treatment plan that includes medications, oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation and, most of all, her hopeful spirit and deep sense of gratitude, she has created a present and future without an expiration date. Pulmonary rehab became a cornerstone of her journey, allowing her to regain strength and confidence. Her improvement was clear, with better stamina and an ability to keep up with family activities she once thought impossible. The process wasn't without challenges, including adjusting to constant oxygen use, but it ultimately transformed her life. Amy now advocates for others facing similar struggles, working with organizations like the Pulmonary Hypertension Association to improve health care access and support. Her journey is a testament to resilience, showing that even with a life-altering diagnosis, it's possible to live fully and embrace new experiences.
