A big congratulations to Mohammadreza Narimani! Mohammadreza shared: "I am pleased to announce that my recent presentation, 'Early Detection of Branched Broomrape in Tomato by Hyperspectral Sensing,' at the ASABE AIM 2024 (American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers Annual International Meeting) received the Student Presentation Award. I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported me throughout this project, and I sincerely thank ASABE for this esteemed recognition." His innovative research and outstanding presentation skills have earned him this prestigious award. Well done, Mohammadreza! ?? ??-???????????? ?????????????????? ?????????????? ???????????????????????? We’re also proud to celebrate the contributions of our students through the E-Search program: ???????????????????????? ???????????????? In addition to his own success, Mohammadreza Narimani mentored Nicholas Richmond, who presented his poster, "Global Vegetation and Climate Insights Portal (GVCIP): A Google Earth Engine-Based Monitoring Tool," at the UC Davis College of Engineering. Mohammadreza's guidance through the E-Search program has been instrumental in Nicholas’s development and success. ?????????????? ?????????????????????? Momtanu Chakraborty also made a significant impact through the E-Search program. She mentored Rithika Krishna Perugupalli, who worked on a project titled "Low Cost Leaf Area Measurement Using a Simple Paper Scanner." Momtanu shared: "My mentee learned the fundamentals of computer vision, including techniques like thresholding and morphological operations, and used Detectron2 to detect leaves and calculate their area. She did an amazing job presenting the work at the E-SEARCH Research Project Showcase. I’m really proud of her and highly recommend the E-SEARCH program to other UC Davis grad students!" Probably that catchy song by Prince… Well, while we enjoy good music, this post is about something else that took place in 1999 – the hiring of our Animal Care Supervisor for the Fish Conservation and Culture Laboratory (FCCL), Luke Ellison! This year officially marks 25 years of service from Luke to the University of California Davis so, we hope you will join us in congratulating Luke on 25 years of supporting the FCCL!!! Let's give a massive round of applause?to BAE graduating seniors Emily Makeev, Chih Rong (Daphne) Lee, and Morgan Johnson for clinching the prestigious Sandia National Laboratories Engineering Design Award at the 2024 UC Davis College of Engineering's Senior Design Showcase! ??? Their project? A game-changer in the fight against deadly mosquito-borne diseases: a biodegradable passive emanator for mosquito control. ???? This innovative solution not only tackles the spread of these diseases head-on but does so in a sustainable, environmentally friendly manner. The dates are Tuesday, May 28th, and Wednesday, May 29th and registration is required. This workshop will cover various topics related to water management and safety, with specific emphasis on best practices for the California Central Coast Region. Note: Our very own Associate Professor of Cooperative Extension Irwin D. Ronaldo Gonzalez is the Co-Director of the Post Harvest Research and Extension Center & one of our recent additions to the department, Assistant Professor Bruno Carciofi is a current Center Faculty Affiliate!
