Grateful to have been part of this article on the importance of summer studentships. Having lost motivation for chemistry during the pandemic, my summer project gave me the enthusiasm and confidence to pursue my current PhD. I strongly believe it's important that research groups take on summer students where possible. Whilst to some it may seem inconsequential; boosting the confidence and enthusiasm of soon to be graduates increases the chances of keeping those fresh bright minds in the field of chemistry. ?? Exploring the Wonders of Science ?? Science education goes beyond textbooks—it's about igniting curiosity through hands-on activities! The Year 4’s at Astor International School dove into the fascinating world of the three states of matter in their IPC unit, ‘Shake It!’. ??????? ?? Experiment 1: From liquid water to solid ice and then gas. Our students observed the magic of water changing states through freezing and boiling. ?? ?? Experiment 2: Turning liquid milk into solid butter by shaking it in a jar. Tasty science on toast! ?????? ??Experiment 3: Homemade ice cream! Shaking a milk mixture in ice and salt created delicious vanilla ice cream. A yummy lesson in states of matter! ?? ?? Experiment 4: From solid coconut flesh to liquid coconut milk. Exploring the versatility of coconuts while learning about matter transformations. ?????? These engaging experiments helped our students understand that matter is dynamic and ever-changing. The Culminating Project of an English and Media Studies MA student can be either a Thesis or a Capstone project. A Thesis is a popular decision for students looking to further their education through PhD programs. The roughly 20-page essay is a culmination of the research a graduating student produces on a perspective they have on a specific area of interest. The second option for MA students, the Capstone project, is more popular with graduating students who wish to further their experience regarding a career outside of academia. Both options require students to register their project under an advisor. Faculty members within the English and Communications department at Rutgers-Camden should be considered for an advisory role. Students should make sure their academic or career interests align with a specific faculty member before proposing their project. The final semester of an MA student’s degree is when the bulk of the work on the Culminating Project will occur. Students will work closely with their advisor throughout the semester to produce the final project which will be submitted to the department for approval before graduation.?

Recently, I was looking back at my faculty members from different institutions and reflecting on which ones I particularly valued. A faculty career can take two different paths: academic and industrial. ???? Academic path: This path involves formal education - earning degrees, engaging in research and contributing to scholarly publications. Faculty with this education often have deep theoretical knowledge and a solid foundation in research methods. ???? Industry Experience Pathway: Alternatively, professionals may enter academia after gaining significant experience in industry. Such individuals bring practical knowledge, real-world problem-solving skills and first-hand knowledge of current industry practices to the classroom. Both routes offer unique benefits. And I have found excellent teachers who have followed both paths. When I was young and doing my bachelor's degree, I was more attracted to teachers who had practical experience. But when I got my Master's degree, I appreciated the value of academic teachers more. ? From this point of view, do you have any preferences when it comes to choosing teachers?
