In this paper, we design and analyse a relay-aided Slotted ALOHA solution for uplink random access in a mixed #underwater #optical #wireless #communications (#UOWC)-#radio #frequency (#RF) system. The first uplink phase represents the #UOWC transmission between underwater devices and the floating buoys, which act as surface relays. The second uplink phase is performed by #radio-#frequency (RF) communications between buoys and an #unmanned #Aerial #Vehicle (#UAV) hovering over the water surface. Analytical expression for end-to-end throughput is derived, and utilized to analyse performance dependence on the #UOWC and #RF channel conditions, as well as #UAV position. The performance improvement due to employment of relaying is observed under various channel and traffic conditions. ----Tijana Devaja,?@Srdjan Sobot,?Milica Petkovic,?Marko Beko,?Dejan Vukobratovic More details can be found at this link: https://lnkd.in/gS88CQZQ

I'm thrilled to share a new video created by my mentor, Bill Geyer , showcasing the web-based system identification toolkit for UAVs that I developed during my GSoC period, under the guidance of Bill and Peter Hall . This toolkit allows users to identify LTI models, such as transfer functions and state-space models, directly from UAV flight logs! In this video, Bill has done an incredible job explaining how the toolkit works, diving into its features, and demonstrating how UAV model identification works. Whether you're a researcher, developer, or UAV enthusiast, this toolkit offers an accessible way to work with system identification. ?? Check out the video here: [.https://lnkd.in/gcaTRSVj] Also, you can check out the documentation for sysID toolkit at ardupilot discourse: [.https://lnkd.in/ghxckq7p] Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback! #GSoC #UAV #SystemIdentification #LTIModels #Innovation

This article presents accurate approximation expressions for the outage and secrecy outage probabilities of relay-assisted #free-#space #optical (#FSO) communication links utilizing #unmanned #aerial #vehicles (#UAVs). The authors consider the effects of weather attenuation and random fluctuations of UAVs’ orientations and positions. The obtained expressions are applicable to different types of intensity modulation direct detection techniques. They utilized?#L-ary #multipulse #pulse-#position #modulation?(#L #MPPM) scheme and optimized link performance by adjusting the?L MPPM settings using our derived expressions. They conduct numerical analyses to evaluate the impact of system settings, including beam divergence and modulation settings, on outage and secrecy outage probabilities. ---- Haitham S. The Port Saint John commissioned the MSRC to conduct real-time navigation simulations to determine operational parameters for 305?m container vessels transiting the port’s entry channel and berthing at the newly expanded Rodney North Terminal. ? The study took place at the MSRC’s facilities in Quebec City over a five-day period using a 360o DNV Class A, Full Mission Simulator and 3 other interactive bridges. All 34?manoeuvres were conducted by seasoned Saint John pilots, who were assisted by experienced tug masters from Atlantic Towing. ? The MSRC’s in-house team designed and created the "pilot-grade" container vessel model, which, thanks to the use of specific ship data, boasts a very high degree of accuracy. Its performance was validated by various pilot groups that are familiar with this type of vessel. ? The MSRC’s own database development tool was used to create a high-fidelity 3D geographical area model to include all aspects of the channel’s bathymetry and shore-side structures. A 3D hydrodynamic model (FVCOM) was integrated to simulate currents and water levels associated with the tides and river flows. #navigation #simulations #portsaintjohn
