Today is #Juneteenth and our #NEOPartner, The Leadership Conference Education Fund reminds us that, "Juneteenth is not just a celebration of freedom; it's a call to action. We must ensure that all voices are heard in our democracy. The fight for the freedom to vote is crucial for safeguarding our rights and building a more just society. For democracy to work, it must include us all." Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/gy-hMtJG

Publicly appointed boards and commissions in local, regional and state government are a hidden level of power in most communities. “Publicly appointed” means that elected or appointed government officials—like the mayor or county commissioners—choose and place the members of these boards and commissions, instead of those members being directly elected by, and responsive to, the people. Those appointed to these boards are disproportionately older, highly educated, white, homeowner men. When we make decisions that affect all of our lives—across race, place, gender, and more—we must share the power in making those decisions. Come learn how to get a seat on a decision-making table! Join one of our upcoming info sessions: https://buff.ly/41qHGql 1?? Dec. 10, 5:30 – 6:30 pm (Zoom) 2?? Jan. 9, 5:30 – 6:30 pm (In person) 3?? Jan. 14, noon – 1 pm (Zoom) Nexus' Boards & Commissions Leadership Institute is a 7-month fellowship that supports, trains, and helps place BIPOC and other underrepresented community members on city and county publicly appointed boards and commissions. Believe it or not, New Leaders Council is NOT only for those work in politics. It takes cross-sector leaders to change the world. That's why our chapters are intentional about creating cohorts that reflect these ecosystems of change. Applications and nominations are still open for 2025 Institute. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/eQy47UE. ID: Myth: NLC is only for those who work in politics. Less than 10% of the 2024 Fellows worked in politics. I am always honored when asked to participate and or speak in DC. I am very patriotic and love been a citizen of the United States and take my citizenship as a responsibility and as a privilege. I always feel unworthy and a little bit of the imposter syndrome. I just keep saying to myself, I may not be the best person but I keep showing up and thats galf the battle. I show up so my ethnic community has visibility, has a voice and has some advocacy in DC. I invite Pacific Islanders to join me in DC, we need more people involved. May 13 I will be on a panel that will address that the Biden-Harris Administration is redoubling its efforts to support Black, Latino, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Native Hawaiian, Native American, women, and veteran small business owners. From international matchmaking and business counseling, to direct funding for communities across the United States -- there is exciting work underway to help support new and existing AA & NH/PI entrepreneurs. For instance, in Fiscal Year 2023, the U.S. Small Business Administration delivered $52.4 billion in capital, disaster relief, and bonding to small businesses and disaster-impacted communities across America, with expanded funding for minority- and women-owned businesses. Over the past year, the U.S. Department of Commerce has expanded offices and staffing in the Indo-Pacific, which has already helped U.S. AA & NH/PI companies expand sales and build commercial partnerships. Three million businesses are owned by AA & NH/PIs employing five million people with annual revenues of more than $1 trillion. This panel will explore opportunities and challenges for AA & NH/PI small businesses, despite record levels of funding, support, and services. It was moved to Walter E. Washington Convention Center because VP Kamala Harris will be attending.

At VIPediatrics, we’re on a mission to make the world a better place—starting with our community. ?? Part of creating a brighter future for our children and families means encouraging everyone to make their voices heard. That’s why we’re proud to support early voting here in Florida {starting tomorrow!} Voting is one of the simplest, yet most impactful ways to shape the future we want to see. We’re encouraging our team to get out and vote during early voting and aiming for 100% participation from our team. Whether it’s by offering flexible schedules or simply having conversations about why voting matters, we’re making sure everyone has the time and support to participate in our democracy. ?? To other organizational leaders, here’s a challenge: Get your teams involved too. Provide the flexibility and encouragement they need to vote early. When we make it easy for people to vote, we’re helping build a stronger, more engaged community. Let’s lead by example—together, we can inspire a wave of civic engagement that truly makes a difference. How are you encouraging voting within your organization? #EarlyVoting #VIPediatrics #CivicEngagement #Leadership #VoteEarly #Florida #MakeADifference #GetOutTheVote

Dr Donna Stemmer the Founder of WorkRight 2023 has ground breaking insight and actions around the identification of bullying behaviours in organisational structures. Her programmes have uncovered systemic and devastating behaviours that have both massive mental health and productivity/revenue impact on the New Zealand workforce. Her story and research is both inspirational and tragic. The numbers she has uncovered are a blight on the workplace landscape and a direct inditement on leadership competency and capacity. NZ continues to be highly under invested in leadership development and we are seeing the results of that shortfall and short sightedness. Leadership directly impacts, productivity, engagement, retention, revenue, innovation and culture. Why wouldn't we invest??? There is no sugar coating this.

Have a question for the panel? Let me know! We're looking for questions from the community as we prepare for this exciting discussion.
Mayor Mattie Parker and 40 other community leaders have described Fort Worth ISD’s current state as “unacceptable,” urging a turnaround plan to bring lasting change. At our next Candid Conversation on Dec. 3, our panel of leaders and experts will examine what a successful plan might look like, why it’s different from past efforts and what’s already being done to make it happen. Get your tickets and join us from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3. https://lnkd.in/giBYue9q
