?? World Suicide Prevention Day | Reflecting on the Past to Shape a Better Future. On this day, as we observe World Suicide Prevention Day, it’s important to remember that the fight to prevent suicide is not new, it has deep historical roots. One pivotal moment took place over a century ago on September 10, 1882, when reformers gathered in Vienna for the World Anti-Suicide Pact. This was one of the first international efforts to address mental health and prevent suicide through education, advocacy, and reform. Since then, we've made strides, but the work continues. Globally, nearly 800,000 people die by suicide every year, and many more struggle with mental health challenges in silence. By raising awareness, promoting open dialogue, and offering support, we can continue to break the stigma around mental health and create a world where help is available to everyone. ?? If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out. You are not alone, and together, we can make a difference. ?? #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealthMatters #BreakTheStigma #SupportEachOther #EndTheSilence #itsokaytotalk

September is Suicide Prevention Month and Sept. 9-13 is Construction Suicide Prevention Week. At Day & Zimmermann, we’re learning more about and building awareness around mental health in the construction industry so that our teams can save lives. In multiple years, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found construction and extraction was the no. 1 occupational group with male suicides. Talking about the problem reduces the stigma around this difficult topic and asking how others are doing creates a community of support that can go a long way. As leaders, you can let your people know you’re available to talk and that they can call or text 988 or chat at https://hubs.ly/Q02PH0CL0 24/7 for free and confidential support. Together we can save lives! #CSPW2024 #StopSuicide #TalkAwayTheDark #MentalHealthMatters #ConstructionSafety #SeeSomethingSaySomething #WhyNotZero

The month of October signifies National Substance Use Prevention Month — a time for communities to unite as partners in prevention. This month, we also recognize individuals in recovery and the children, parents, family members, and friends supporting them. Prevention isn’t just about stopping substance use — it’s about preventing it from progressing and reducing its harm. With a strong prevention playbook backed by decades of research and experience, we know that prevention works. By strengthening protective factors and reducing risks in our schools, families, and communities, we can help youth thrive and stay ahead of both substance use and mental health challenges ?? #SubstanceUsePreventionMonth #ksprevention

This month, AFMC is promoting International Overdose Awareness Day as part of our partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on August 31st each year to raise awareness of overdoses and reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths, while also acknowledging the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or had a permanent injury because of drug overdose. In addition to International Overdose Awareness Day, SAMHSA also commemorates International Overdose Awareness Week and has a 2024 toolkit available. View the toolkit here: https://hubs.ly/Q02LsfnQ0 There are resources, media toolkits, and educational material which can help the public recognize whether a person is experiencing an overdose, know what to do if a person may be experiencing an overdose, and much more.
