Staying Focused and Continuing to Grow While I haven’t added a new certification to my collection recently, I’ve been deeply curious and actively expanding my understanding of innovations in Construction and Bridge Engineering. One technique that really caught my attention is the Accelerated Bridge Superstructure Replacement—I was genuinely impressed when I saw how this method was applied in an award-winning project, showcasing its potential to revolutionize efficiency in bridge construction. Another fascinating concept I’ve explored is the Hybrid Composite Beam—its lightweight design and ease of assembly make it a game-changer for reducing both costs and construction time. Growth isn’t always about completing a course—it’s about constantly improving, exploring new ideas, and being ready for the next big opportunity. I feel happy about the fact that I got to read about these techniques and advancements in Bridge Engineering. I’m excited about what’s ahead and looking forward to connecting with others who share the same drive for learning and innovation. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries! #ContinuousImprovement #StructuralEngineering #BridgeEngineering #LearningJourney #CareerGrowth

*Nerdy post alert* My husband and I love watching science YouTube videos. The topics range greatly (who doesn't love Mark Rober's glitter bomb series or squirrel obstacle courses?) but one of my favorite channels is Practical Engineering. Grady Hillhouse, P.E. does a great job diving into civil engineering and infrastructure topics. I like showing different episodes in our outreach programs to give students a crash course in the topic we're about to explore. I also appreciate when Grady tackles current events. When the MV Dali crashed into one of the support piers of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland on March 26, I was honestly a bit depressed all day. Six people died and a critical piece of infrastructure in Maryland was gone. It wasn't a typical structural collapse, but it still left me wondering how this could have been avoided. I don't specialize in bridge design so I was grateful that Grady was willing highlight aspects of the AASHTO code related to ship allisions with bridges. It's a great reminder that even if we want to, it isn't practical to design a structure to withstand every extreme event. Taking calculated risk in the design is a part of our job and above all, we must diligently learn what we can from tragedies. Do you have any science channel recommendations? What failures and case studies still stick with you today?

?? Building Bridges: Learning Through Action One of the highlights of this year was working on the design and analysis of a steel bridge. This experience allowed me to dive deep into structural engineering principles, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. From conceptualizing the design to performing structural analysis, I gained invaluable insights into the complexities of bridge construction and the importance of precision in engineering. Every bolt, beam, and calculation brought me closer to understanding how engineers contribute to creating infrastructure that connects people and communities. I’m excited to continue honing my skills and tackling more challenging projects in the future! #StructuralEngineering #CivilEngineering #BridgeDesign #EngineeringInnovation
