It’s not just what we do that matters, but how it’s perceived. Perceptive impact is something I spend a lot of time thinking about, and trying to harness. What is it? → It’s the effect that our actions, behaviours, and communications have on how others perceive us. → It’s about the impression we leave and how our presence influences others' thoughts, feelings, and actions. In terms of food and beverage establishments, perceptive impact is everything. Once you’re perceived by the public in a certain way, it can be very difficult, even impossible to change that perception. Take this example: → A restaurant that has sit-down and delivery capabilities always has delivery drivers crowding their front door. → As a customer, what do you think? → That they only do takeaways, and that their sit-down options are probably not that great. Because this restaurant has prioritised one element of service over the other, they have created a certain image of themselves that will be very hard to shake. Perceptive impact is the foundation of most hospitality establishments. Before people taste your food or drink your cocktail, they have to walk through your door. How are you going to get them there??
