#Homelessness is a big topic of conversation in the greater Seattle area—and one that can be loaded with opinion and emotion. If you—like us here at Campion—believe that we need honest and empathetic conversation about #housing and homelessness, then we encourage you “donate your small talk” this holiday season. This new campaign from We Are In will help you talk about homelessness in a clear, compassionate, and sensible way. For example: Your Uncle: All those homeless people downtown are why Seattle’s crime rates are so bad. It’s not safe there anymore. You: I hear your about safety. It’s a big concern for me, too. People who are homeless, though, are more likely to be the targets of crime, rather than the perpetrators. Crime is a real problem, but people experiencing homelessness is a separate issue. Addressing the housing continuum in Charlotte-Mecklenburg starts with awareness. “The number of people experiencing homelessness in Charlotte-Mecklenburg continues to increase. As of June 2023, there were 2,704 people in Mecklenburg County actively experiencing homelessness, an 11% increase (from 2,428 people) from June 2022.” Mecklenburg County - Housing & Homelessness Dashboard Crisis Assistance Ministry is among a few organizations in Mecklenburg County minimizing housing instability by addressing "upstream" needs like eviction prevention. Today is World Homeless Day, a moment to raise awareness and reflect on the urgent need to support those without a safe and stable place to call home. Having worked in the homelessness sector for nearly seven years, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and vulnerabilities that so many people face daily. Every story is unique, but the common thread is the impact of compassion, support, and action in helping individuals regain stability and dignity. At Emmaus Merseyside we are committed to providing not just shelter, but also the resources and guidance needed for long-term recovery and reintegration. However, homelessness is a community issue, and we need more than just organizations working in isolation — we need everyone to engage, whether through awareness, donations, volunteering, or simply offering a listening ear. Homelessness is an issue that affects communities across the globe, including right here in the UK. According to Shelter, over 250,000 people are homeless in England alone. This is a stark reminder that our efforts to combat homelessness are far from over. It's essential to remember that everyone has a role to play. Whether it's volunteering your time, donating to local shelters, or simply raising awareness about the challenges faced by homeless individuals, every action counts. From my own experiences, I've seen how community support can significantly impact lives and help people regain stability. Let's use today as a catalyst for positive change. Every person deserves food on their plate and a roof over their head. Unfortunately, hunger and homelessness are a reality for far too many people. The U.S. is the richest nation in the world, but 37 million Americans are at risk of suffering from hunger and more than 500,000 Americans are homeless on a typical night. Next week is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, an annual opportunity to shine a spotlight on the problems of hunger and homelessness and organize our communities to take action. This week we are acknowledging Homelessness Week at Star to drive awareness of the impact of homelessness in our community. A big focus of this week is our Op Shop Fundraiser, with all proceeds raised going towards Sacred Heart Mission’s Women’s House. We are asking each student?to donate two items of quality clothing, or one item of clothing and a warm blanket to?support this initiative. These items are to be given to students' mentor teachers.?We are aiming to conclude the donation drive on Monday July 29th. Alternatively you can donate directly to Sacred Heart Mission’s programs via their website:?https://lnkd.in/gBmju-gY Domestic and family violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women, with 45% of all women and girls seeking assistance identifying family and domestic violence as a cause. In fact, 2 in 5 women (39%) have experienced violence since the age of 15. What these devastating statistics don’t tell us however, is how many women are slipping through service gaps. Since 2012-2023, the number of women and children experiencing homelessness has doubled. The Women’s House is a sanctuary for women in crisis. It is a safe space where they can share their experiences and receive person-centred, specific support.
