To most of us, a bed is something that we cozy into each night... for the families that we are serving, this is something that they cannot even imagine, that they would be able to get off the floor and into a bed. Beds are one of the most critical items we provide, bringing comfort, security, and dignity to families emerging from crisis. Right now, we have a backlog of families who desperately need beds—a place for their children to sleep safely and comfortably. If you were to visit our warehouse today, you’d see rows of beds, but here’s the reality: every single one of them is already spoken for. We're grateful for the generous donations we receive, but the need far outweighs what we currently have. For every one bed we give, we get a request for 3 more... and we’re struggling to meet that demand. ?? Why are we sharing this with you? ?? Pawsitively Bears Day #1: The inception of Teddy Bears with Heart traces back to a personal challenge during my divorce. Faced with the dilemma of what to do with 450 bears stored in boxes that I had collected through the beanie bear craze, a conversation with a friend who happened to be a fire captain sparked the initiative. I didn't want to throw the bears away, he volunteered to take a few off of my hands. I then started thinking, who else could use bears so I started looking. I have always been one of those who "see a need, fill a need" kind of people. As TBWH grew we decided we wanted to be a non-profit. At the time it cost a lot so I did some online research and found Good Bears of the World. They have been in business since the 70s and did exactly what I wanted to do. I contacted them and they agreed to let us be a Den. Since 2008 we have given out over 200,000 stuffed animals and are gifting to first responders and other agencies in over six counties, not to mention throughout the U.S. and Internationally, when we can. The primary mission of Teddy Bears with Heart is to provide comfort to children in crisis, the forgotten elderly, and the terminally ill. Importantly, TBWH emphasizes our commitment to being a resource during times of genuine need, steering away from serving as mere Christmas gifts, prizes, or incentives. While we are all doing our best to maintain our work-life balance and keep our personal lives personal, I think it is important to remember that the average American will spend about 1/3 of their life at work. Given that fact, I think there is a lot to be said about organizations that contribute to their employees volunteering and donation efforts which is why I figured I would share my annual fundraising efforts here with my network. In 2018, I lost my older brother, Stephen, to suicide. Since that day, I have been doing what I can to share resources, provide support and speak about the importance of Suicide Prevention and the work of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. A donation of $50 can provide suicide prevention resources to 25 people. When most organizations match their employeess' donation activity, I think it truly is crucial to share this message here with my network. While I ask you to donate, I am also acutely aware that not everyone is in a position to donate at this time. Please consider sharing within your own networks. Simply speaking about suicide prevention and letting those around you know that it is a cause you care about can truly and genuinely save someone's life. Talk Saves Lives!

October 6, 2024 is the NYC Chapter Out of Darkness Walk. It will start the NYC Seaport Pier 16 & 17?in the Seaport District. The event opens at 10AM. The walk starts at 11:30AM Many many of you helped last year with donations to my fund raising. The construction industry has one of the highest suicide rates among professions — with the rate among male construction workers 75% higher than men in the general population. 6,000 construction workers died by suicide in 2022 and increase from 2021.
