How to successfully pitch in front of investors? ?? The questions seem endless: What to show? How long should it be? How to prepare? I remember those early days, spending countless hours refining our pitch and following every best practice the internet could offer. Now, as we gear up for our own pitch event at Start2, I sat down with the winners from our last event and asked them for practical, hands-on tips. Here's what they shared: ?? "Instill curiosity" - Dr. Tim Breker from Vytal Investors are human too. To get the conversation going, create curiosity. Use cliffhangers so they feel compelled to reach out and learn more. ?? "Think about what really resonates" - Rick Hodgson from EMROD Too many slides are overflowing with information. Take a step back and focus on what truly resonates. Cut out all unnecessary details. ?? "Your pitch is just the start" - Fritz Lange from 3D Spark The pitch is only the beginning. It’s about sparking interest and delivering the core value of your solution for the next conversation. ?? This week, we included an additional lecture to our Spring program featuring Ján Kasper, PhD., MBA, PhD., Co-founder of our AceON Accelerator and Co-founder & Managing Partner at ZAKA VC with a portfolio of over 50 start-ups. ?? Ján shared insights from his extensive experience in venture capital and entrepreneurship. Currently, he is involved within 50 companies generating a total revenue of €730M. ?? The primary focus of the lecture was recommendations for structuring a pre-seed round pitch deck to capture investor interest. Additionally, in the second half, Ján presented the tips for start-up success. ?? ??? Ability to present clearly what a start-up does is crucial, not only when pitching to investors but also when attracting future employees or potential customers. In the pre-seed stage, a pitch deck differs significantly from that of a Series A company, as there are fewer numbers to display. During this phase, many start-ups may lack revenue but can demonstrate their progress by outlining their journey from day 1 in clear time framework. This information provides investors with insight into how quick the start-up founders are in developing business. ?? In your pitch deck, you have to be very easy to understand. Avoid excessive sentences or lengthy stories. Instead, highlight essential facts such as market size and growth, the character of the problem, Go-To-Market Strategy, team skills, and experience, in a simple manner on slides. Ján's advice to every founder is to allow the investor to ask.
