Follow our #RegenerativeAgriculture journey.
???? Our Farms of the Future are key to how we are supporting the transition to?#RegenerativeAgriculture — here, we trial and test practices so that we can scale them across geographies & showcase best practices in sustainable farming to our grower partners. ?? Things have been busy on the farm this spring! Farmers have been preparing for planting by selecting and purchasing potato seeds and maintaining #SoilHealth. #CoverCrops planted in the fall and winter reduce the need for extensive soil disturbance. We also deploy #ControlTrafficFarming – a system of permanent wheel tracks across fields that reduce soil compaction and damage from machines. ???? Stay tuned as we continue to highlight a year in the life of a regenerative farm! Planting season – here we come! #WeAreMcCain?

Farmers, are you ready to take your farming to the next level? Intercropping maize and beans is one of the game-changers for sustainable agriculture, and here’s why: 1. Boosts Soil Health: beans enrich the soil with nitrogen, benefiting maize and improving overall soil fertility. 2. Higher Yields: Improve your land usage by growing two crops simultaneously, leading to increased productivity. 3. Improved Income: intercropping can cumulatively lead to better financial returns. 4. Risk Management: diversified crops mean strategic preparation against market or climate unpredictability. #YourFarmersGuardian #intercropping

Why Post-Harvest Handling Matters. Post-harvest handling is crucial for maximizing the value and quality of our crops. By focusing on effective drying, storage, and transportation, we can: Prevent Spoilage: Reducing moisture content minimizes the risk of mold and bacterial growth. Reduce Losses: Proper handling decreases weight and volume, enhancing efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Maintain Quality: Ensures crops stay fresh, nutritious, and market-ready. Boost Profitability: Minimizing losses and preserving quality leads to better financial outcomes. Investing in post-harvest practices is key to sustainable agriculture and ensuring that every harvest reaches its full potential. ?? Did you know? ?? World Soil Day is observed on 5th December, highlighting the importance of healthy soil in sustaining life. At RDT, we support farmers in adopting sustainable practices that protect and restore soil health, vital for agricultural productivity. Healthy soil improves crop resilience, increases yields and helps ensure consistent harvests for farmers. By promoting organic farming methods like crop rotation, mulching, border bunding, boulder clearing and using organic fertilisers, we helped improve soil fertility and prevent erosion. In 2023-2024, more than 300 farmers embraced organic farming, reducing dependency on chemical fertilisers and ensuring long-term sustainability.?? #WorldSoilDay #SoilHealthMatters #SustainableAgriculture #OrganicFarming #SoilConservation #EcoFriendlyPractices #SaveSoil

Justin Costello’s farm has achieved remarkable outcomes, including a 26% increase in stocking rates. As Justin explains: "Since the project's inception, we’ve seen a 26% improvement in stocking rates, highlighting the benefits of sustainable farming." By transitioning from monoculture annual rye to diverse multi-species pastures, the project has reduced reliance on synthetic fertilisers while improving soil health: "The move to diverse pastures has been a game-changer. Less fertiliser, better soil health, and increased productivity—it’s a win-win!" In collaboration with AgriProve and the CERES TAG "Tags for Tonnes" program, the project also leverages innovative herd insights to optimise pasture use and management. Discover how AgriProve partners with farmers like Justin to create measurable, sustainable change. We work with nature, not against it. Our organic farming practices are rooted in a deep respect for the land, aligning our efforts with the natural rhythms of the earth. Just as the seasons change and the soil nurtures life, we follow the natural cycles to guide our harvests, ensuring that each crop flourishes in harmony with its environment. By working alongside nature, we create sustainable ecosystems and cultivate cocoa of the highest quality. This connection to the land is not only essential for the quality of our cocoa but for the well-being of the communities we serve. Ensuring that our cocoa farming practices contribute to a healthier planet, we ensure people, crops, and ecosystems thrive together. #ThreeMountainsCocoa #SustainableFarming #OrganicCocoa #SoilHealth #NatureAndAgriculture #HarvestingWithNature #MotherEarth

I watched the most amazing documentary about regenerative farming last night on the BBC.... As we rely more and more on food imports and diminishing returns from our land - as a result of chemicals, fertilizers and intensive farming which is literally 'killing' any life in our soil, releasing still more carbon into the atmosphere and helping any goodness left to simply wash away into rivers and the sea, surely there has to be a better long term 'sustainable' land management alternative... Livestock aren't the enemy btw as they have been portrayed, and providing the land and grazing is properly managed on a rotational basis, their farming actually helps to capture significantly more greenhouse gases than they emit - providing a useful carbon sequestering income stream for farmers in the process through the sale of carbon credits! We clearly have an urgent need to move towards a more local, community driven food production system - 'farm to plate' - that feeds us and delivers long term food security, whilst in turn regenerating and securing the 'asset' that makes it all possible in the first place... Why aren't the powers that be on high mandating this as part of our country's agricultural policy? We have a mandated annual target for EV's sales for manufacturer's - why not localised 'regenerative' food production by local authority? Oh, and if you need to offset your carbon emissions as a business, you have to buy 'credits' from a local source like this in the geography where they originate! If farmers are able to make more money they will pay more tax on income earned. Surely this has to be a better approach than taking taxing the inheritance of future farming generations? Powerful stuff this joined up thinking! Have a watch and tell me what you think in the comments... #regenerativefarming Doug Wanstall Richard Bowe Chris M. Growing Kent & Medway Produced in Kent
