?? What Does Diversity in the Workplace Truly Mean? ?? Diversity goes beyond checking boxes or meeting quotas—it's about embracing differences, fostering inclusivity, and building a culture where everyone feels valued. In my own journey, I’ve experienced firsthand the challenges of adapting to new environments, battling misconceptions, and navigating my identity as a queer woman. But through it all, I’ve learned the true power of diversity: it drives innovation, enriches perspectives, and makes companies stronger, more empathetic, and better connected to their communities. In my latest blog, I dive into the importance of prioritizing employees and community over profit, exploring how tech companies can shape a more inclusive future. I share my personal experiences and reflect on how we, as a society, can work together to create spaces that celebrate diversity and empower everyone to thrive. Take a moment to read my thoughts and let me know what diversity means to you! ????

Meet our team!?Austin Konkle?(he/him), our Marketing Manager, is the newest member of the Lex team, wearing every marketing hat in the basket. From growth, to social, to events, and everything in between, Austin makes sure you all *know* who Lex is and what we stand for. Fun fact: he has had his own little moment in the spotlight as a TikTok creator. * Q&A with Austin * Q: What's the most favorite thing that you've worked on at Lex? A: We just launched our Lex Campus Ambassador Program with student ambassadors across North America at over 60 universities! It’s so exciting to see GenZ users far and wide who want to grow their local queer community on our platform. Q: What's your favorite way to use Lex or something you discovered because of Lex? A: I love the Group Explore feature! I find myself going through various categories all the time just to see queer people around the world finding each other and bonding over shared interests. Q: Biggest lesson you learned this year? (Personal or work related!) A: Don’t count yourself out of something before even giving it a shot! There’s a lot of opportunities for Lex and some can seem scary, too ambitious, or like big undertakings, but we’re a small, capable team that’s already proved out so much while being so scrappy. Q: A book/podcast/TV show/movie you would recommend? A: I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for Severance Season 2!?

In recent news, Deadspin’s Carron J Phillips painted a picture that sparked outrage without delving deep into the story’s core. The case in point is about a child with family ties to the Chumash Tribe, a crucial detail that was astonishingly overlooked. This omission led to a one-sided narrative that doesn’t just warp the truth—it disrespects it. Phillips, in a rush to judgment, ignored the fact that the child’s actions were a nod to his heritage, not a mockery of it. Yet, Deadspin seemingly more interested in clicks and ad revenue than in accurate reporting, published a headline that conveniently skipped this context. It’s a classic case of sensationalism over substance, where the allure of controversy trumps the duty to inform. The most disheartening aspect of this saga is Deadspin’s reluctance to correct their narrative even after being apprised of the full context. This refusal not only perpetuates misinformation but also unfairly vilifies a child for celebrating his culture. It’s a stark reminder that in the digital age, the race to be first can sometimes lead to being fundamentally wrong. Carron’s perspective, steeped in a victimization mentality, does more harm than good. It underscores a worrying trend where the eagerness to be offended overshadows the willingness to understand. By painting the child’s actions as inherently offensive, Carron inadvertently reveals a bias against the celebration of other cultures—a stance that ironically borders on racism. The real story here isn’t just about a child or a cultural celebration; it’s about the responsibility of journalists to present the full picture. In their haste to judge, Deadspin and Carron missed an opportunity to highlight a beautiful aspect of cultural diversity. Instead, they chose a path that led to misunderstanding and unwarranted backlash. To all the football fans out there, let’s remember: the field is more than a battleground; it’s a place where diverse cultures can come together. Let’s not let incomplete narratives divide us. Let’s strive for understanding and respect, something this child, with his proud display of heritage, has taught us all. https://lnkd.in/gTU_F3vr
