Just finished production on a career milestone of a project with @MostValuablePromotions and Netflix I was trusted with the opportunity to lead a creative team producing high-production video content for the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight week. This was our final and most important video, over 120 hours of work, from pre-planning & brainstorming, to filming & capturing, to the 72 hours of editing (42 of those hours straight with no sleep), VFX & intensive post-production… I can proudly and finally say, we did it. I’ve spent 10 years working on my creative craft as a professional photographer, videographer, & now director / producer… and it’s taken me each of those 10 years, to develop the confidence to take on something of this magnitude and responsibility. The journey has been tough, and I’ve hit rock bottom countless times. But what I didn’t do was stop. I never stopped learning. I never stopped trying. I never stopped being a student of the game, looking to those who were better, and had more experience, to see what I could learn and how I could improve. Every failure was an opportunity to get back up and be better the next time. I’m sharing this because I’m proud. Proud of the journey, proud of my team, and proud of the path I chose to take, to get here. The social media / creative industry is growing exponentially fast. We thought we'd share some of our advice when thinking about filming your next event... Here are our team's suggestions for you to consider; - How are you planning to use the footage? Live stream, VOD, web clips, social media content or all of these??Generally if the footage is just being used for a live stream and budgets are tight, lower quality cameras can 'do the job', it's worth investing in quality equipment and experienced camera operators if you want to use the footage for web and social content. - How will the lighting of your live event impact filming quality? It's worth enhancing on and off stage lighting to ensure quality video footage with less shadow etc. - Do you need different cameras for on and off stage filming? PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) cameras are cost effective for static stage filming, but on any medium to large production event a mix of PTZ and manually controlled cameras (ideally 3+) is recomended, especially if you want a dynamic feel to the footage or you have presenters that like to travel around the stage. And finally... If there's a small spare room available at the venue it's great to set this up as a studio, (doesn't need to be flashy) perhaps with a green screen or simple background for interviews away from the audience and general noise.
