How do you build a brand from scratch? After 6 years of creating our product, we’re now developing a brand that represents it. It’s early days, but we’ve made a strong start. Here are the key features I believe the Newlane brand must be built on... ? Clarity: We’re not just making helmets; we are redefining safety on two wheels. Newlane makes protection simple, stylish and convenient. ? Emotion: Our mission is to make people feel safe without sacrificing freedom. It’s about empowering commuters to move confidently. ? Humour: Let’s face it - no one expects a helmet to fold! That’s why we’re keeping our content engaging and fun. ? Surprise: A helmet that folds? Yup, we’re flipping expectations (literally) by creating something people didn’t know was possible. ? Distinctiveness: Our innovative design ensures we stand out. ?? I'm excited to share the journey of creating a brand for Made North, a mission-driven software company with heart and creativity at its core. Their aim is simple - to make people’s lives run more smoothly.. When I met with Matt Williams the founder of Made North, our goal was to create a brand that showcased his unique approach and unrivalled expertise and that stands out in a homogenous and overcrowded market. Here’s how we did it: 1. Brand Exploration: We dove deep into what Made North stands for—innovation, expertise, and a touch of Northern honesty. This became the foundation of our brand story. 2. Visual Design: I created a warm, textured and fluid visual identity choosing a colour palette inspired by the North of England where Made North is based. 3. Voice & Tone: We established a consistent, friendly, and confident tone across all communications, ensuring Matt's personality shines through in every interaction. 4. Customer centred Focus: We defined Made North's messaging to highlight how their solutions uniquely solve their customers' pain points, putting their needs at the forefront.
