66 percent of travel companies' profit margins are affected by obsolete or cumbersome payment methods, and nine in ten will prioritise financial modernization this year, a research revealed Tuesday. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, payment preferences have changed in the travel business, according to Airwallex and Skift Research. Cross-border payment revenue is rising, yet 70% of travel companies struggle with the unprecedented variety of payment options in different regions. According to the survey, credit cards, debit cards, and digital wallets are the most popular client #payment options. However, travellers are increasingly embracing local payment systems or peer-to-peer apps, which differ by market. According to the report, 88% of travel executives said clients' payment preferences have changed since COVID-19. Local payment mechanisms and peer-to-peer systems are increasingly growing, notably in #Asia. “As global travel continues to boom, travel companies increasingly rely on quick and seamless cross-border payments to surpass customer expectations at every touchpoint, “However, our latest study shows that slow and outdated payment processes are increasing the cost of moving money internationally, which is eating into their profits – modest at the best of times,” said Jack Zhang, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at Airwallex.
