“There I was, visiting a winery that specializes in Syrah wines. Syrah is really not my cup of tea or glass of wine. I know others who love this grape. How will I write good things about Alta Colina? Once in a while I taste a Syrah that blows me away in deliciousness. So maybe I need to be open-minded, and learn something from these Rh?ne/Syrah experts.” Excerpt taken from the newest edition of the book: Exploring Wine Regions: The Central Coast of California #winelovers #booklover #winestagram #wine #grapes #winegrapes

WEEKLY TASTING REPORT: Magnificence From the Mosel, Plus Handling the Heat in Paso Robles (Part III) Stefan Steinmetz of the Weingut Günther Steinmetz in Brauneberg is another quality fanatic in the Mosel, and although several of his top wines of the 2023 vintage were still fermenting when Stuart tasted there, they were still astonishingly deep and expressive. None is more extraordinary than the?Günther Steinmetz Riesling Mosel Piesporter Treppchen Von Den Terrassen 2023. It has a gigantic stature for the wines of this region, and is the essence of slate and a miracle of finesse for its scale. This is another extremely limited-production wine, but scroll down to the tasting notes and you’ll find other great wines from this producer that will be easier to find. Selbach Oster in Zeltingen is one of the most widely distributed of the leading Mosel producers, and it has been for a long time. You might think that there would therefore be no surprises here. However, Stuart has been stunned over the past few years by the dry rieslings made by father and son team Johannes and Sebastian Selbach (photo). For Stuart, the 2023 single-vineyard GG wines are the best so far, but it was another wine that is neither properly dry nor really sweet that blew his mind.?The breathtaking mineral freshness lifts the imposing stature of the?Selbach-Oster Riesling Mosel Schmitt 2023?and takes you to a place of floating peace. Call it riesling nirvana if you like. It comes from a single parcel of vines in the Schlossberg site of Zeltingen. Like many of their colleagues, the Selbachs are still a bit stunned by the wines they made in 2023. As Johannes said: “The harvest was extremely taxing because of all the rot we had remove, and it was only some months later that we tasted the cellar and suddenly realized what a great vintage we had!” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gTmefmKQ #moselriesling #riesling #germanwine #winelovers #winetasting #wineeducation #sommelier #wineculture #vineyard #winepairing #winemaking #winecommunity #sustainablewinemaking

The development process for our Larus barrels was originally aimed at creating a barrel that was specifically suited to short-aged white wines, while minimizing barrel taint, but still providing all the benefits of the new barrel use for the wine. The result? Not only perfectly suited to white wines, but also produces excellent results with low tannin, moderate alcohol reds like Pinot Noir and Kadarka. The global success of Larus barrels proves that this particular type of barrel adapts extremely well to different wine styles and works particularly well for Pinot Noir producers. In this way, Larus barrels help to preserve the delicate aromas and elegance of the wines, while adding a little extra complexity and structure without overpowering the natural character of the wine. With Larus barrels, Pinot Noir can be taken to a new level. Get a quote today! https://lnkd.in/dcAYHiPk? Spring is for Pink Wines! As the soft colors of new green grass show in our lawns, and daffodils, tulips, lilacs, and peonies begin to bloom in our gardens, it is the perfect time to sit on the deck and sip some lovely "pink" wines. Some suggestions include locally sourced Klingshirn Winery’s Country Blush. It’s a semi-dry blend of hybrid wines - like Vidal Blanc and Chambourcin - that produce a beautiful blush color with a clean distinctive character of the grapes. Or Klingshirn Winery's Vin Rosé which is a customer favorite. It's a semi-sweet, light red blended wine, perfect for drinking in warm weather and pairs well with lighter fare. Let’s not forget Klingshirn Winery’s Pink Catawba. This wine is a delicate sweet pink wine with spicy characteristics. It's perfect for drinking in warm weather and also pairs well with lighter fare. When serving with a meal, the wine should be chilled and is great when paired with grilled salmon or tuna entrees. For casual entertaining, pink wines pair well with cheeses and dips. Try out this easy recipe at your next gathering. Party Crab Dip 2 cans drained crab meat, flaked 1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese 5 tablespoons mayonnaise ? cup onion chopped very fine Pinch of garlic powder Salt and pepper to taste Crusty Italian Bread, unsliced Mix the first six ingredients in a medium bowl until well combined. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes. While the dip is heating, hollow out a round loaf of crusty Italian bread. Fill the bread with crab mixture. Retain the bread bits for dipping. Wine sampling is available in the retail room until 6 p.m. If you cannot visit the winery you can find our wines at several local stores. Choose the perfect bottle in under 30 seconds! ? The art of selecting the perfect wine bottle! To help you narrow down your options and make a swift decision, let's break it down. 1?? A good rule of thumb is to aim for the middle price point on the shelf. This often indicates a balance between quality and value. 2??Determine what type of wine you need—red, white, rosé, or sparkling. Consider the occasion and food pairings to guide your choice. 3?? When checking for a wine label, look for key information such as the region (renowned areas like Napa or Bordeaux indicate quality), the grape variety (familiar types like Cabernet Sauvignon offer consistency), and the vintage (recent vintages for whites and rosés, and slightly older ones for reds for added complexity). 4?? Look for any medals, awards, or ratings on the label. These can be helpful indicators of a well-regarded wine. 5?? If a label catches your eye or you have a positive feeling about a particular bottle, give it a try. Wine is an adventure, after all! Remember, it’s all about enjoying the experience.
