???? RNID’s new campaign launched to coincide with this year’s Deaf Awareness Week focuses on the fact that ‘It does matter’ for deaf people to be included. This theme stems from the all too common experience of deaf people who, if they miss something in conversation, are often told that it didn’t matter. But this happens because hearing people can’t be bothered to repeat themselves nor do they understand a deaf person’s frustration about this - if you said something it was obviously for a reason; a deaf person may just need another chance to hear it. Such understanding is applicable in both social and working environments. In fact, employers who dismiss a deaf person because of the ‘hassle’ it causes do not appreciate the fact that a deaf person is a valuable asset to their company. Why? Because deaf people are arguably the best listeners through heightened perception of awareness and necessity to understand information in their surroundings. So next time you communicate with a deaf person, remember to be patient and accommodating because ‘It does matter’. #deafawarenessweek #deaf #inclusion #communication #campaign
