I want to share an Excel initiative that I believe promotes safer work through the improvement of worker performance. Yes, I am talking about Excel's Apprentice Week. This is one week when our apprentices come together in one place to learn more about the skills required to do their work well, from the most knowledgeable and experienced Excel technicians and other leading refrigeration and air-conditioning experts. Led this year by one of Excel's Managing Directors, Craig Heerdegen, it's all about learning and sharing knowledge. Check out the video below for day three highlights.

Student success story: While working as a handyman, Gregory found out about the Skillpoint Alliance pre-apprentice electrical program from his sister, who thought it would be a good opportunity for him to start a more stable career. After doing some research, he thought the program would be a great fit for him and his son, and they both enrolled in Skillpoint’s pilot electrical class in Killeen, Texas in November 2023. In December of 2023, the Grimes’ received first and second place in the skills challenge, a showcase that is held at electrical graduations for students to show family, friends and employers what they have learned during their time with Skillpoint. A local employer, RK Bass, was in attendance for this showcase and was extremely impressed with Grimes' skills. Both Gregory and J.R. were hired on by RK Bass and now work as apprentice electricians/laborers, getting to work on various projects within the company. ??? Ready to write your own success story? ?? Did You Know? ?? At Electrical Testing Ltd, we’re incredibly proud of our apprentices' achievements in the Highway Electrical Maintenance and Installation Operative Apprenticeship! In the 2023/24 academic year, we supported 95 apprentices, including 70 at Level 2 and 25 at Level 3. Here’s how our completing apprentices performed this year: ??? 57% achieved a Distinction??? 36% earned a Merit??? 7% successfully passed An incredible 93% of our apprentices graduated with top grades, highlighting the strength of our programme and their hard work! We’re also thrilled to share that all 14 of our completing apprentices are now in full-time employment, ready to apply their skills and knowledge to make a real impact in the industry. This fall, our 3rd-year apprentices wrapped up their transformer studies with Transformers, Level 3! ? They took their knowledge to the next level, diving into special transformers, connections, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Tim, our instructor, didn’t stop at the built-in transformer simulator. Throughout the week, he worked in 3 different custom labs to make things even more hands-on for the apprentices; allowing them to get real practice reading wiring diagrams and making connections. ???? And, because this lab is done in a safe and controlled environment, the apprentices were able to use electrical meters to display and confirm their outcomes, ensuring they mastered every step along the way! ???
