Over the past 6-weeks, the third-year apprentices completed their "Hazardous Locations" coursework. To increase their learning, their instructor built a lab to help them understand the function of a sealing fitting (seal-off) and provided them with the skills necessary to install a sealing fitting properly. The apprentices then worked to install the Killark Electrics sealing fitting, pull in wire, separate and space the wires, pack the seal off with packing wool, mix the Killark sealing compound, and then pour in the sealing compound to make an airtight seal. The following day, the apprentices tested their seals by pouring water down their conduits to determine if they succeeded in making a proper seal off. Did some fail? Absolutely! That's what's great about labs; failures are just opportunities to learn more! Out of the 100+ apprentices who completed this installation, only 10-20% have previously had the opportunity to install a seal off in the field. We provide labs like this to ensure our apprentices are well-trained, well-prepared, and ready to succeed in the electrical industry. #electricalapprenticeship #ApprenticeshipsWork #futureelectrician #apprenticeship #etATraining #ibew347 #necaofiowa #Killark #hazardouslocations
Excellent work!
Great to see this lab taking place. Hubbell provides a huge variety of training tools which are at your disposal.
