? EDI FRIDAYS ? I had a great conversation with the wonderful exec team at CPSL Mind this week about EDI and one theme really came through - just start somewhere. When people think about diversity and inclusion it's easy to be overwhelmed about everything you *could* do, it's easy to worry that you don't know enough to do or say the right thing. So, rather than make a mistake, you don't do anything. Sound familiar? Well, the great thing about EDI is that every little thing you do makes a positive difference. You don't need to know it all to make a start and you don't need to do everything at once. Just pick something and start there! The book seeks to address several major questions around this topic including: - What is power and who gets to have it? - What affects someone's power? - What can we do about power? - How can we empower others?

Let’s delve into the unique challenges that black women truck drivers may face in the industry: ????Racial Discrimination: Black women truck drivers may face racial discrimination in the industry. This could manifest in various ways, such as biased hiring practices, unfair treatment on the job, or lack of equal opportunities for advancement. ????Cultural Isolation: Being a minority within a minority, black women truck drivers might experience a sense of cultural isolation. This could be due to a lack of representation and relatable peers in the industry. ????Stereotyping and Bias: Stereotypes and biases can create additional hurdles. Black women may have to constantly prove their competence and deal with the burden of representing their entire race and gender in the industry. ????Safety Concerns: Safety issues are a concern for all women in trucking, but black women may face additional risks. For instance, they might be more likely to be targeted for harassment or crime, particularly in areas with high racial tension. ????Lack of Mentorship and Support: The lack of black women in leadership roles in the trucking industry can result in a lack of mentorship and guidance for those starting in the field. ????Intersectionality of Race and Gender: The intersectionality of race and gender can compound the challenges faced. Black women truck drivers have to navigate the complexities of both racial and gender bias in the industry. ????These challenges highlight the need for the trucking industry to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for all drivers. ?? It’s crucial to address these issues head-on to ensure that everyone, regardless of their race or gender, has the opportunity to thrive in this profession. ???? ?? As Black History Month draws to a close, Sonia Gilchrist, our Senior Business Director and Head of DE&I sat down with Campaign UK and Asad Dhunna, Founder and CEO of The Unmistakables, to ask a pressing question: has adland lost its commitment to DE&I? ?? In the episode, they explored why the agency world struggles to accommodate diverse talent, reflected on the recent backlash against a Heinz ad accused of racism, and considered how the industry can reignite the spirit of 2020 in its DE&I efforts. Sonia highlighted four key points: Adland's commitment to DE&I has declined: Economic pressures and the drive to win clients has shifted the focus away from DE&I but businesses must engage holistic, sustained approaches across all business operations in order for it to thrive. Integrating DE&I throughout the business: When Sonia created the VCCP DE&I collective in 2020, she prioritised cultural inclusion and diversity across ethnicities, genders, parental statuses, disabilities, and LGBTQ+ communities and emphasised that every department in a business, not just leadership, must be committed. Addressing the backlash against the Heinz ad: Sonia emphasised the importance of having a diverse perspective in the entire creative process as well as the need to not create further fear of getting it wrong when it comes to topics of DE&I. The future of DE&I in Adland: Sonia stressed that long-term strategies and accountability at a leadership level are essential for real change.
