?? Celebrating Women in Business! ?? International Women's Day is on the 8th of March but we are shining a spotlight every day this week on the incredible women who drive innovation, growth, and success within our company. Meet Sarah, a trailblazer in her field, whose dedication and leadership inspire us all. Stay tuned as we share stories of empowerment, resilience, and achievement from women across our organisation throughout the week. Together, let's champion diversity, equality, and inclusivity in the workplace and beyond. #IWD2024 #WomenInBusiness #inspireinclusion
Sarah Cartledge's thoughts:
"Having spent 25 years in and around the rail industry I’ve seen a great deal of change in terms of levels of inclusivity (indeed it’s great to report not only for women).?I recall very few women in senior roles when I first started with Railtrack in the 90s and perhaps that didn’t matter to me too much then as I was just finding my feet in an industry I knew little about (and frankly didn’t think I wanted to know much about given that in theory it was just a ‘temp’ job whilst I found my true destiny!)?
Just before I left Network Rail to join Tracsis around 2015 I remember that there was a very clear ethos that having diverse teams was a positive aspiration as it allowed a broader range of thinking and perspective and I truly believe that is the case.?
Having joined Tracsis this was a clear natural order from the start – there’s always been a higher proportion of women in all sorts of roles here than I’ve previously been used to!?
It's heartening to see that pretty frequently now the next senior-level LinkedIn appointment notification is often a woman and hopefully, that goes some way to showing younger the art of the possible.
In addition to this, I live in a male-dominated household – two sons.?I’ve always been keen for them to believe that, in general, roles both inside and outside of the home should have the potential to be equal.?Of course, we all have our individual strengths and weaknesses as well as preferences for types of tasks (I can confirm neither of my sons are very keen on ironing or emptying the dishwasher!), but I want them to feel that the natural order is for either them or their partner to have equal access to a great career, parental leave, being a homemaker…whatever works for them as an individual and for them as part of a team, whether that’s a home team or a work-related team.?We all want the chance to be our best self, whatever that means."
