It’s clear there are opportunities and challenges ahead as our regions transition to a decarbonised future, including the need for renewable energy infrastructure.??? ? Coordinator-General Gerard Coggan was in Mackay yesterday at the 2024 Greater Whitsunday Regional Projects Forum discussing how the OCG is supporting this transition through key projects within State Development Areas (SDA’s) at Mackay and Abbott Point.??? ? SDA’s provide a unique opportunity to diversify industrial development, unlock investment opportunities, and deliver huge economic benefits by creating local jobs and new export and procurement opportunities.?? ? I had the privilege of attending the Stakeholders Engagement Workshop (SEW2024) organized by the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria , themed "Powering Partnerships for Sustainable Energy Access and Innovation." The workshop brought together key energy stakeholders to discuss transformative initiatives like the e-HEART project, aimed at energizing healthcare, education, agriculture, rural communities, and transportation through renewable energy. Discussions also highlighted the role of Renewable Energy User Cooperative Societies (REUCS) in ensuring sustainability and community ownership of mini-grid projects. This workshop was a fantastic opportunity to connect with stakeholders and gain deeper insights into sustainable energy initiatives like the e-HEART project. It’s inspiring to see the collaborative efforts shaping the future of energy access in Nigeria.

These events included the FOTOFUEL Congress, the SUNERGY Spanish Stakeholder Event, and the SUNER-C 5th Consortium Meeting along together the UK-SCN x SUNERGY x MI Workshop. ?? The three-day series of events highlighted the importance of collaboration between research, policy, industry and society as a whole, to drive the development of solar fuels as a key technology for the clean energy transition. Big plans ahead - Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor (NBHC). ?? Six Nordic and Baltic gas operators, including Lithuania’s Amber Grid, are working on a massive project. A 2,500 km long green hydrogen corridor. Planned by 2040. The NBHC will mark a crucial step in Europe’s decarbonization journey. By reducing up to 37 million tons of CO2 annually. What does this mean for Lithuania and the region? ? The corridor will transport up to 2.7 million tons of renewable hydrogen annually. ? Increased investment in industrial and technological innovation. ? New jobs, reduced energy transport costs, and enhanced energy security across Europe. ? Significant green electricity generation and infrastructure development opportunities. This project is shaping the future of Europe’s green economy, and Lithuania is at the heart of it. ??

How can Denmark and Italy ensure a just, ambitious and pragmatic green transition? ? This was the key question our energy expert Enrico Carloni explored along with other panellists, during the Vision Meeting on Energy Transition, hosted by Regione Puglia and Conferenza delle Regioni e delle Province autonome as part of the Festival delle Regioni 2024 ?? ? The Danish energy transition was built on long-term ambitions focused on energy efficiency, renewable energy deployment, and innovation. This strategy helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 46% since 1990, boosted the economy by 76% in GDP growth over the same time period, and created 100,000 jobs in the Danish energy sector. ? On this basis, the discussion centred around the main opportunities the green transition can unlock in terms of economic development, environmental and social impacts. But, also focusing on the engagement with the local community and enterprises that need to benefit directly from this transition.? ? We catch every single sunray to turn it in energy, showing that it is possible to match energy efficiency and environmental respect. ? Our photovoltaic system is not just a technological choice, but a declaration of our commitment to the sustainability. Reducing the carbon amount, we actively contribute to the fight against climate change and we promote a more responsible model of economic development. ? This day gives us the opportunity to think about the light and solar energy vital importance for our planet and for the future generations. Researchers from MU have been awarded funding for their RENEW project as part of Research Ireland's National Challenge Fund 'Grow Phase.' Led by Prof. Fabiano Pallonetto and Dr. Amy Fahy, School of Business, the Renewable Energy through Networking, Education (RENEW) project aims to empower sustainable energy communities (SECs) in Ireland by tackling key challenges like user engagement, technological gaps, and financial barriers. https://lnkd.in/ef8djTYg
