Interns are a HUGE drag on company's profitability... And yet every large company has internship programs. Why? They offer asymmetric upside for the company. The company wants to make sure you're good enough to hire full-time, and in doing that, they attempt to earn your trust and loyalty through benefits, and hopefully a full-time offer. In return, they may gain a talented and committed employee for years to come. The sooner I recognized I was losing the company money, the sooner I came to peace with this concept and used the internship to get as much as I could out of it - a return offer. I immersed myself and delivered on my project, had 5+ networking conversations per week, and gave the firm zero reasons not to give me the full-time offer. You've earned your spot here. Remind them why!

One way to retain more college graduates: convert interns into full-time. The only way to convert more interns to full-time: have more internships. The only way to have more internships: start or improve your internship program.

This is the secret to getting your first internship: (No, it's not having an uncle in the company) It's evidence. Evidence that you are good enough for the task. To all of our Pathway Programs interns from Summer 2024--we are so happy you were able to join us! Just a quick reminder to update your resume/CV with your summer internship experience! We suggest doing it now, while the experience is still fresh in your mind. Remember, hiring managers/admissions committees are interested in what you accomplished at your internship, not just that you participated. What types of projects did you work on and how did your tasks contribute to the projects? Try for 3 bullet points describing your accomplishments. Three is not a magic number, the point is to break the experience down into specific, memorable contributions (you may have 2-5, and that is fine). Use key words--often the skills or technology used. Once your resume/CV has been updated, go into the Experience section on LinkedIn and update that, too. It's important to capture your accomplishments!
