How can safety data sheets contribute to sustainability? Safety data sheets (SDS) contribute significantly to sustainability in the chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. They provide comprehensive information on chemical substances, their handling and disposal, which promotes more environmentally friendly use. 1. SDSs provide information on environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional chemicals and promote the use of sustainable and biodegradable substances. 2. SDSs help to minimise the use of hazardous substances by encouraging substitution with safer and more environmentally friendly alternatives. 3. SDSs prevent pollution by providing detailed instructions on the safe handling and disposal of chemicals. Emergency procedures in the SDS minimise the risk of environmental damage in the event of accidents. 4. SDSs promote resource efficiency by providing recommendations on the optimal use and storage of chemical products, which reduces waste and extends product life. In addition, SDSs support recycling by providing guidance on the reuse of materials and containers.
