?? A high-level delegation from the Moroccan Customs Administration recently paid a working visit to China. On the agenda were fruitful discussions and meetings with senior Chinese Customs officials. This visit marks an important step towards the implementation of a mutual recognition agreement for Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status. ?? The agreement on mutual recognition of AEO status, which is currently under discussion, aims to streamline and simplify procedures for foreign trade operations between our two countries. This initiative reinforces the growing development of trade between Morocco and China, placing economic cooperation at the heart of priorities. ?? Alongside the discussions, the Moroccan delegation took part in an initial meeting in Guangzhou, where the two working groups examined the contours of this promising agreement. On the sidelines of the visit, the delegation also attended an audit mission at TDK, a multinational partner for AEO approval validation. This is an annual meeting which takes place annually. We are pleased to announce that Customs Knowledge Institute and the Confédération Internationale des Agents en Douane (#CONFIAD) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. This is an important step in promoting collaboration and progress in the customs field. The Memorandum outlines key areas of cooperation, including sharing of information, intelligence and experience on customs policies and practices. Promoting the exchange of customs knowledge through joint conferences, webinars, courses and training for certification of standards for customs representatives is a priority for both parties. In addition, we have the ambitious common goal of acting as an international voice for the harmonisation and simplification of customs procedures and practices. We truly believe that the Memorandum of Cooperation signals a new era of partnership and mutual support between the parties. Strengthening WCO ESA Members’ Engagement in the African Trade Observatory Today, the World Customs Organization - East and Southern Africa (WCO-ESA), in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC), hosted a webinar on the African Trade Observatory (ATO). The ATO, led by the African Union and supported by the EU's financial support, is key for providing trade intelligence that promotes regional integration and effective AfCFTA implementation. The webinar was opened by Mr. Mondher Mimouni, Director, Division of Market Development, International Trade Centre and Mr. Larry Liza, Director, World Customs Organization, East & Southern Africa, Regional Office for Capacity Building. With participation from over 104 customs officials representing 21 Members, the session highlighted the essential role of customs in managing and analyzing data to boost trade across Africa. The ATO, one of the AfCFTA’s five operational instruments, enhances trade information to support evidence-based decision-making across the continent. It equips policymakers and government officials, including Customs Authorities, to oversee regional trade integration and assess AfCFTA’s impact. Thirty-four AU members have joined this initiative, with ESA members actively supporting AfCFTA and regional integration.
