Olympic Mixed Relay Triathlon Water Quality Update We just received the results from both the 9:12 AM and the 12:00 PM samples collected this morning near the Alexandre III bridge in Paris, at the Olympic venue for the Mixed Relay Triathlon event. The 9:12 AM sample provided a planktonic count of 418 E.coli/100 mL, and the comprehensive count of 1001 E.coli/100 mL (the laboratory MPN count should be slightly higher, but is not available yet - we'll update in the morning). These results indicate marginally acceptable water quality per World Triathlon standards. Cannot miss that the precise count of 1001 E.coli/100 mL is slightly ironic, indicating that the controversy is really far from being over... The 12:00 PM sample at Alexandre III bridge, couple of hours after the event, shows counts of 506 E.coli/100 mL planktonic (below threshold) but 1338 E.coli/100 mL comprehensive (above limit), reflecting a slightly degraded water quality compared to the morning, and (again) conflicting risk indicators.
