Ever wondered about changing a name on an Illinois birth certificate from another state? Here's a guide to navigate the process efficiently! Changing a name on an Illinois birth certificate might seem daunting, especially for out-of-state residents. But don't worry, we've broken down the steps to make it manageable. First, you'll need the Affidavit and Certificate of Correction Request. This document is vital and requires notarization. Any notary public can do this, but if you're in Wisconsin, it might be easier to do it in Illinois. Gather your documentation. Depending on the correction, you might need baptismal records, school records, or military IDs. It's essential to have everything ready to avoid delays. Next, submit everything to the Illinois Department of Public Health with a $15 fee and a government-issued photo ID. Remember, the submission must be in person or via mail. While Illinois offers clear guidelines online, the necessity of notarization and mailing can be a hurdle. Be prepared for this step to ensure a smooth process. Navigating legal changes can be tricky! In 2023/24 there have so far been 1,148 recorded child abduction offences by the police in England and Wales. This figure is up from last year. The sad reality however is that figure does not represent the true number of child abductions with many cases dealt with by the Family Courts and not recorded as offences with the police. It is important to consider the distinctions: - "Wrongful removal" - a child is taken or removed from the jurisdiction without the required consent. If both parents are named on the child's birth certificate, and the parent does not have a Child Arrangements Order confirming that the child lives with them, the consent of the other parent is required to take a child out of England and Wales, including for the purpose of a holiday. - "Wrongful retention" - a child is kept in a country which is not their place of habitual residence without the required consent. For example, a child is taken on holiday (with the consent of the other parent) but the child does not return at the end of the planned holiday. - "Threat of abduction" - a real risk that a child will be removed from the jurisdiction without the required consent. I always advise clients that PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN REACTION. Whilst this may not always be possible and there are legal mechanisms to assist when removal/retention occurs, preventative action, prior to a child being removed is key. #childabduction #childrelocation #hagueconvention #inherentjurisdiction #parentalrights #parentalresponsibility #childarrangementsorders

International children and child abduction work is fast-paced, emotionally charged, and requires immense focus as the stakes are high, but balancing that with being present for our own families is a challenge I know many of us face in the legal profession. What I’ve come to realise is that no one can pour from an empty cup. Rest and recovery aren’t luxuries—they’re necessities. If we want to show up as our best selves—whether it’s for our clients, our colleagues or our families—we have to give ourselves permission to pause. So, for anyone out there feeling the weight of “doing it all,” remember: it’s okay to step back. It’s not weakness; it’s wisdom. Taking care of ourselves is the foundation for taking care of everything else. This (exhausted) smiley face is signing off for some much needed family time and a well-deserved recharge. ?? #WorkLifeBalance #MumGuilt #WorkingParent #RestAndRecovery #SelfCare #LegalLife #InternationalLaw #ChildAbductionLaw #MentalHealthMatters #ParentingInLaw #Wellbeing

Understanding when to stop paying for child support can often be a complex issue, filled with legal intricacies. It's crucial to note that payments usually cease when the child turns 18 (and graduates high school), 20 (if still in high school), gets married, becomes emancipated, or as per court orders. Always remember, you should not halt child support payments without a court order. For more in-depth information, read more here: https://lnkd.in/g-PxSzaH #ChildSupport #FamilyLaw
