We spent the day yesterday with our staff and board evaluating and strategizing about our high-level misson, KPI's, and goals, and it felt only fitting to end the day on the eighth floor of the District 121 Building as the highest point in McKinney. Thankful to have a board and staff with great vision to see the future, hearts to strengthen the community, and hands to work out what strategic growth in McKinney can look like. Who are the people that power Kentucky Cornerstone? Amanda Davenport serves as the Executive Director for the Lake Barkley Partnership. Over the past eight years, Amanda has worked in both rapidly developing Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and in small communities in rural Kentucky. Her community work focuses on creating investment opportunities across the region to support business expansion and industry attraction. She loves what she does because every day is different and she has the opportunity to make a difference for our communities. As this semester wraps up, I've been reflecting on some of the experiences that have shaped my growth, especially my involvement with the GW Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service. This year, alongside my ongoing volunteer work with Little Friends for Peace, I stepped into the role of Site Leader for ArtReach GW. ArtReach GW serves over 300 children and families annually, offering free, high-quality visual arts education through classes, exhibitions, and events for communities in DC’s Wards 7 and 8. In my role as Site Leader, I’ve gained hands-on experience in planning and facilitating meetings, managing scheduling, leading a dedicated team, and collaborating closely with my supervisor to uphold ArtReach’s mission: building connections between people and their communities through the power of art. Additionally, I’ve had the unique opportunity to observe art therapy group sessions with the GW Graduate Art Therapy Program. These sessions have confirmed my passion for art therapy and strengthened my career aspirations in mental health. I’m excited to continue working with the Nashman Center and contributing to meaningful community engagement throughout my time at George Washington University!

#AlumniSpotlight for Lena Pace (’13 M.A.), the new superintendent of both the Arches and Canyonlands national parks in southeastern Utah. Pace grew up in Alaska where both of her parents worked for the National Park Service (NPS). She was a commissioned NPS law enforcement ranger for more than 20 years in multiple parks and has been “inspired by the resources, history and culture of southeastern Utah” since she first visited Moab and Delicate Arch early in her career. “I look forward to continuing to work with the dedicated staff who care for these special places, collaborate with our public and private partners, and engage with the local communities and Tribes,” she said in an NPS statement.
