Early in my career I was a remote reservation agent for luxury properties across the world that I had never seen. ?? I was tasked with selling rooms that often cost thousands of dollars per night. ?? I was like 20yrs old and thought that La Quinta was fancy. ?? ?? I had the highest: - call conversion rate - average sale - total monthly sales - Single sale in the history of the company ?? More than sales there was also a call criteria you had to hit. - Tonality ?? - Quantity & quality of adjectives ?? - Using the customer’s name a minimum amount of times ??? - Describing attractions ?? - Finding out if they are celebrating ?? (And much more) They would record and grade the calls as well. ?? I also had the highest call quality scores in the company. ???? While there are always tips & tricks you learn in every industry… there were 1?? thing I was doing that nobody else was. It definitely set me apart. I made a list on a small whiteboard. Then checked each objective as I hit it. ??? Two other key factors that got me to that level and beyond were the people. I had an internal champion in Maggie Kinman-Cook. And a mentor Darren Prescott. Both of these people will always hold a special place in my heart. ?? Both went out of their way to make sure I lived up to my potential. Hotel Sales Blitzes are a waste of time. Today, I’m sharing 5 better ways to find interesting businesses around your hotel—without even stepping outside. First, why should sales teams avoid sales blitzes? Visiting offices one by one is inefficient and ineffective. Plus, you’re likely interrupting your potential customer’s day. Sure, dropping by with a gift is a nice gesture, but it’s not the best way to attract new companies, even if your General Manager thinks otherwise. ?? Instead, here are my top sources to find nearby businesses: 1. Crunchbase: Discover fast-growing companies in your city that your competition isn’t targeting. Filter by location, CB Rank, and size! 2. Google Maps: Many hotel sales managers use Google Maps incorrectly. Google categorizes businesses like “Software Companies,” “Investment Banks,” and “Corporate Offices.” Type * followed by these terms in the search field to find great businesses nearby. 3. Chamber of Commerce: Fast-growing companies often start in co-working spaces. Enter the address of your local WeWork or Spaces into the Chamber of Commerce database to find registered companies. 4. Google Alerts: Companies often issue press releases when opening a new office. Set up Google Alerts with terms like “opens office Copenhagen” or “opening office London” to get instant notifications of new businesses in your market. 5. LinkedIn: My favorite tool, and many hotel sales managers use only 20% of its potential.
