How to Buy Wines For Weddings

Reflections on My First Wine Tasting in Bilbao: Lessons Learned Organizing my first wine tasting in Bilbao was exciting but came with its share of challenges: 1. Finding Guests: It was tough to get people to come because I'm new here and not many speak Russian. Note to self: Use local networks and social media, team up with local businesses and expand to English speakers (My Spanish is still not perfect enough for me to host tastings in this language but I’m working on it) 2. Finding Wines: I had to scramble to find wines because the tasting was quite spontaneous. Tip? Plan in advance, order online and build relationships with local wine sellers. 3. Rare Wines: Getting rare rose txakoli was super hard even in Bilbao because it's made in small amounts and was off-season. Next time, I'll prepare better and plan ahead. 4. Money Matters: I didn't make much profit this time. Lesson? Double-check costs and pricing for future events. 5. Timing Troubles: I didn't realize it was a holiday weekend, so fewer people came. Remember to check local holidays next time. I’m still adjusting to local festivities and traditions. All in all, I think doing at least something is better than not doing it at all. We all should start somewhere. As we are all about to take off for the long weekend, consider celebrating all things local. Here are some ideas: 1. Go to a local farmers market to get your food. Local produce and meats are so much better than what you get at the store 2. Go to a local winery to grab the best bottle(s) of VQA wine to pair with the food you just purchased. Did you know that the food we grow locally tends to pair well with the local wine that is grown and made near by? www.winecountryontario.ca #100milediet 3. Seek out local arts and culture. In Niagara we have so many options, like the Shaw Festival 4. Go to a local restaurant or coffee shop. These small businesses are using the local ingredients mentioned above and carrying local wines and craft beers etc. One of my fav's is the Garrison House in Niagara on the Lake.... but trust me there are thousands of options. 5. Look for a local festival or event. This weekend is Canal days in Port Colborne. Rotary Rib Fest in St. Catharines is also a lot of fun if you need your fill of smoked meat. Live music is usually at all of these events. 6. Most of all Support Local. We are a world class region/country with so many local offerings. Lastly, do all of this responsibly. When you miss your own party! ?? Anyways here is why I am here! After the AEC African Energy Week, my friend Grace Orife surprised me with a winery visit. The setting was serene, with lush vineyards and a cozy terrace. We had an amazing meal at the des overlooking the beautiful landscape, tasted exquisite wines, and I bought a few bottles to take home. It was relaxing, thoughtful, and something I’d gladly do again. Recommendations for Visiting a Winery ? Take a Guided Tour: Learn about the winemaking process. ? Try Wine Tasting: Sample different varieties to discover your favorites. ? Choose Outdoor Seating: Enjoy the view and fresh air. ? Ask Questions: Engage with staff about pairings and flavors. ?
