Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay and this year the World Health Organization is highlighting the vital connection between mental health and work. Persons Living with a Rare Disease and their families face significant barriers to a healthy work life including stigma, difficulties managing symptoms, time spent attending medical appointments or caring for a family member. And while some rare diseases have a direct effect on mental health, PLWRD can also face mental health challenges due to delays in diagnosis, difficulties accessing treatments, financial stress and isolation. We call on employers to offer reasonable accommodations to support workers living with the effects of a rare condition and their families. And we call on members states to support the #Resolution4Rare to ensure that Persons Living with a Rare Disease have the support they need to succeed in the workplace and beyond.
