Market updates in Germany: Olaf Schick will depart from Continental at the end of September 2025 to rejoin Mercedes-Benz as a Board Member responsible for Integrity, Governance, and Sustainability. As Continental continues to prepare for the carve-out of its Automotive business, it will be intriguing to observe the strategic direction and opportunities this development might bring for the company. Sarah Timme has been appointed as the new Chief Legal Officer of Mann + Hummel, succeeding Gunnar Skoeries. Jutta Otto has been appointed as the new Head of Investigations at BMW. Christian Wilhelm has been appointed as the new Head of Group Privacy Governance, transitioning to this role through an internal move from his previous position at Cariad.

Last year, the Dusseldorf Local Division issued its decision on the matter of preliminary injunctions requested by Valeo Electrification against Magna. Valeo claimed that Magna was infringing on its European patents. The court ruled that Valeo's patent was likely valid and Magna was likely infringing, but granted a limited injunction. The Court emphasised that provisional measures are not automatic and must balance the interests of both parties. Magna’s products, including gearboxes used by BMW, would lead to significant costs and delays if fully pulled from the market. The Court allowed Magna to fulfil current obligations to BMW but limited the injunction, highlighting the Court’s flexibility in cases where third parties, like BMW, are impacted. ZF Group, Mercedes-Benz AG and BMW Group are addressing and mitigating human rights risks within their supply chains in Mexico. ?? ??For ZF and the German automotive industry, Mexico is an important production location. In a globally unique pilot project for the industry as a whole, ZF, Mercedes Benz and BMW have now taken on expanded responsibility. It is about addressing and mitigating human rights risks prevalent within the automotive supply chain in Mexico. ??To ensure this and to complement existing grievance mechanisms, an independent grievance platform is launched today. In Spanish it is called Mecanismo de Reclamación de Derechos Humanos – MRDH. ??“This independent cross-company grievance mechanism was developed in cooperation between government institutions, trade unions, civil society, companies and human rights institutions - both from Germany and Mexico. The guiding principle is to offer rights holders better and fairer working conditions along the entire supply chain,” says Dr. Lea Corzilius. She is Chief Human Resources Officer/Labor Relations Director of ZF Group, Human Resources, Corporate Governance and Sustainability. ??Such an independent mechanism makes sense because many people (rights holders) in the long supply chain often do not know which automotive company the product of their work goes to. In the event of suspected or actual violation of human rights, the MRDH’s task is to investigate the company to clear the matter. ??“This partnership-based cooperation is exemplary and a novelty not only for the automotive industry,” concludes Dr. Lea Corzilius. #Sustainability #ActingNow #ActingForAllPeople Learn more about this pilot project here: https://lnkd.in/eBzFfxmN

Respecting human rights is fundamental for Mercedes-Benz AG. That’s why I am beyond proud that a big step in the right direction was made. On Tuesday, we celebrated the #inauguration of the “Mecanismo de Reclamación de Derechos Humanos”, or short MRDH in Mexico. ? This cross-company grievance mechanism is unique because it’s accessible to all workers – from the raw material mines to the production sites. It’s an important milestone in our long lasting work on protecting #HumanRights and establishing respective due diligence processes. ? It also marks the beginning of an innovative way of cross-company-collaboration: colleagues from Mercedes and other companies like BMW Group or ZF Group were involved in the development process as well as representatives of associations, trade unions, civil society organisations, national human rights institutes, and other initiatives. ? The MRDH shows what is possible when companies join forces and civil society organisations are taken on board from the very beginning. I am convinced that the pioneering spirit of this project will inspire our work and maybe will move more companies to join. ■?Stellantis considers Picat and Filosa for CEO! By?Reuters ■ PARIS, Dec 2 (Reuters) - The board of Stellantis?(STLAM.MI), is considering its head of North American operations, Antonio Filosa, and procurement chief Maxime Picat as internal candidates for the CEO position, a source close to the matter said on Monday. Stellantis?CEO Carlos Tavares resigned abruptly late on Sunday?over growing disagreements with the automaker's board and leading shareholders. The source said the board would also consider external candidates for the job. ■ A Stellantis representative declined to comment about specific candidates. Picat, 50, currently chief purchasing and supplier quality officer at Stellantis, previously served as chief operating officer for the enlarged Europe region when the group was created in January 2021. The French civil engineer joined Peugeot maker PSA in 1998 and held positions including managing director of the DongFeng Peugeot Citroen Automobiles (DPCA) joint venture in China. ■ Filosa, an Italian national, became chief operating officer of the group's North American arm in October as part of a management reshuffle after a profit warning on 2024 results. He had joined Fiat in 1999 and worked in several roles before becoming Fiat Chrysler chief in Latin America from 2018. He served as Stellantis chief operating officer for South America before being appointed global head of the Jeep brand in 2023, a role he retains. ■ In a news release, Stellantis did share some details about the interim executive committee leading the company during the search for its next chief executive. The committee, led by Chairman John Elkann, is comprised of nine other executives, including the automaker's new finance chief Doug Ostermann, Filosa and Picat. Six additional executives were named supporters of the committee who report directly to Elkann. Richard Palmer, former finance chief who was replaced by?Natalie Knight?in 2023, was appointed special adviser to the chairman, to "act as a sounding board for the leadership team," Stellantis. ■ Reporting by Gilles Guillauma in Paris, Additional reporting by Nora Eckert in Detroit Writing by Giulio Piovaccari Editing by David Goodman and David Gregorio Source: Reuters #Stellantis #Automotive #AutoNews #FCA #PSA https://lnkd.in/eUkF2tBb

Continental, a major German automotive supplier, is considering listing its core automotive business as a separate entity by the end of 2025 to increase flexibility and address stagnating demand in the sector. The division, contributing about half of Continental's total business with €20.3 billion in sales, is being reviewed for a potential spin-off as the company struggles with transition challenges from petrol-fueled to battery-driven vehicles and a need for more in-car software. This move follows broader industry trends and internal pressures, including substantial layoffs and the strategic restructuring towards electric vehicles. Pleased to announce that the case Glen Dowell and I wrote is once again a bestseller in ethics and social responsibility. Set in 2018, our BMW Electric Vehicle Supply Chain case shows just how tricky it can be to compete in a market that’s expanding so quickly—especially when you’re dealing with new suppliers in regions with shaky institutional environments. The case invites students to think about the specific risks BMW faces as it ramps up its electric vehicle offerings, figure out ways to address those risks, and consider how to handle stakeholder backlash linked to potential human rights violations that are tied to a crucial raw material for EVs. Our case is available here: https://lnkd.in/djXv2vZt #CornellMBA #Sustainability #ElectricVehicle #SupplyChain
