The story that parking lot doesn’t tell is how many consumers bought those vehicles pre-owned 1-3 years old comparatively to a new sedan price. If the manufacturer makes more profit selling the SUV or truck new, the dynamics suggest there isn’t enough need or demand for a new car when a pre-owned, more desirable option is available for a comparable price. The majority of people will drive what they want to drive based on monthly payment. Not cost of ownership or fuel expenses.
